A piece from 1996….early in my journey. “New life for grandma’s walnut tree”. This piece started with a walnut tree from my grandmother’s yard that was cut down while I lived on philadelphia. I drove home on the weekend to rescue the main trunk and store it in a garage were it remained for the next decade or so till I moved back to ligonier and took the log to Rich Piper’s sawmill where it was cut into boards. I have selectively used those boards for family projects over the years and still have a few left. The top on this piece was one of them. The sculptural piece in the center was me working with a “defect” in the slab to incorporate it into the design. Although an early piece this credenza still reflects my passion for this living material and how the beauty of nature has influenced my design philosophy and life.
