MEET RICH
This piece is my homage to the nearby Woolrich Woolen Mill, which recently closed its doors. It was the oldest continuously operating woolen mill in America. I purchased this soft plaid wool fabric that uses a “special dyeing process that allows color to resonate in every fiber,” at their Company Store awhile back (it is as vibrant as it sounds) and was waiting for the right moment to use it. The time has come and it makes for a soft seat on this solid-wood vintage platform rocker. Have a seat and gently rock into a state of cozy bliss.

I was at an estate sale one morning hoping to pick up a chair or two when I unexpectedly found myself raising my hand to bid on a big, old, tattered Victorian sofa I promptly named Sophie. What can I say? I’m a hopeless romantic! One borrowed pickup truck and one conversation with my accommodating husband later, this 250 pound stray moved into our home. Sophie was starved for attention and TLC, and I obliged by spending countless hours reconstructing her from the inside out—a labor of love and an exercise in patience. (Tufting will keep you on top of your math game too.) All in all I counted 90 hand-upholstered velvet buttons and 12 yards of decorative gimp. Her hand-carved frame is in amazing condition and Sophie is as comfy as you please. In the past she must have been tucked away in the “fancy” room but not anymore! This sofa is single, ready to mingle, and eager to get out there and strut her stuff(ing).

MEET VIOLA
What would you be willing to jump into a dumpster to retrieve? Thanks to my good samaritan neighbor who stepped in (literally!), I didn’t have to answer that question. I was delighted to claim this jilted walnut rocker and now here she is: repaired and re-caned (by John and Viola Pfleegor), reupholstered (by yours truly) and ready to continue a comfortable life!

MEET AUGUSTA

MEET VERA AND BABE
These family heirlooms lived in the English countryside for over a half a century. They made the journey across the ocean, quite pleased to be passed down to the next generation, only to become personal favorites of the family cat! That’s when First Chair was called in, and seized the opportunity to reinvent these lovely ladies with panache.

MEET LILY
This antique French armchair has extensive of inlaid detail and dramatic scrolling arms. “Lily the Unique” was rescued from an auction in Lewisburg, where her springs had been replaced by a piece of plywood. [Talk about uncomfortable!] With lots of TLC, she springs back to life and royally flaunts her crushed-velvet chartreuse ensemble.
