I have been working on this 96”x42” Elm dining table that has some advanced clear epoxy work to maintain the fluid lines of the piece. I just finished the top slab and will post again once I wrap up the custom base. How about that grain though?

A client asked me to design an arched headboard with matching nightstands for a king-size bed. I had three beautifully spalted Maple crosscuts, each over 50 inches, from the same tree in my inventory, and the idea was born. I found smaller, similarly spalted Maple crosscuts that I cut in half to form the floating nightstands and the entire piece is hung on the wall with a French cleat. Can I make one for you?

A client asked me to create a small entry table for a wall niche they wanted to fill. They wanted something freeform and live edge but also without epoxy, so I came up with this Dawn Redwood hemisphere top with complimentary tapered Cherry legs. I really liked the look so I made a 2nd one with epoxy and used some rougher Cherry legs to carry the epoxy theme to the entire 2nd piece.

I have been doing a lot of English walnut lately and this coffee table is a good example of the dramatic variation you often see in the grain and the beautiful final product it provides.

This started as a “broken” set of two medium slabs that were fully separated by a large crack. The pics show the progression from beginning to final product and it is completed with a set of Xeni legs from Flowyline Design.

I usually don’t do more than a semi-gloss finish but the client wanted gloss so I had to polish the surface with a buffer. Unfortunately, there were some hairline cracks, normally not noticeable, but the polishing compound worked its way in and was left with a bunch of white cracks. Lesson learned, but I ended up sanding it all down and redoing the entire finish to correct the imperfection.

Delivered a stunning 8’x4’ dining table, crafted from very clear English Walnut slabs and accentuated with a Caribbean Blue epoxy river, just in time for Christmas. Architectural elements from the clients' heirloom library table were repurposed to create a unique sentimental piece.

Not an epoxy table, but my first table built for outdoor use. The client wanted to replace a tile-topped table that had deteriorated. For this project, I used a pair of bookmatched Catalpa slabs to create a 60” x 60” table top. Catalpa is nice because it handles wide humidity changes without cracking. However, it is softer than other hardwoods. I wasn’t sure if I would have any issues with warping so added some C channels to keep it honest with brass inserts and stainless bolts. Thanks to Keith Fjelsted for the recommendation to use Polarian X, a 2K finish made expressly for outdoor projects. This stuff creates an amazingly hard finish and although it is hard to find, it is worth the search.

This is a 120”x46” dining table using a bookmatched pair of Sycamore slabs with great color variation. The client found me via a referral and in a matter of hours they picked the slabs, decided on a layout, chose a base and settled into an approximate epoxy color. This was all done via phone and pics so they knew exactly what they were after! You can see in the images just how perfectly it matches the space in their home.

The base is the Dentro by flowyline_design and is a great option if you don’t want to deal with legs in the way of the chairs. Is is very bottom heavy and extremely stable even with a large top like this one

One piece of this Poplar Burl crosscut showed up at a local wood suppliers and I could not pass it up. I also fabricated a tapered, three-legged base using English Walnut to make it even more dramatic.

Unfortunately for me, the tree was felled in the summer, so the bark removal took a ridiculously long time, but seeing the final result, I think it was worth it.

This is a Wormy Ash crosscut 62”x31 with nice quilting that was cut at an angle to create a surfboard shape. On the intended top side, there was a big odd white area that did not go away when oiling. On the other side was a deep depression near the narrow end… see pics. Since I couldn’t fix the blemish, I carefully hand planed the depression until it disappeared, then reshaped the end to make it look natural.

This was made as a

edge table
