At Cody’s Rest, we honor that legacy every single day. Our Airbnb isn’t just a place to stay — it’s a tribute. Surrounded by more than 40 framed black-and-white photographs from the original Cody’s Rest collection, guests are immersed in the history, character, and spirit of Buffalo Bill.

Each image tells part of the story — the showman, the scout, the legend — and reflects the deep roots he had right here in Leavenworth, Kansas. Staying at Cody’s Rest is more than a visit; it’s an experience grounded in remembrance and respect for a man whose name still echoes through the West.

It always amazes my guests at Cody’s Rest that there are live plants throughout the apartment. Some of them I’ve had for years. This Christmas cactus never ceases to amaze me—it blooms faithfully at Christmas and carries its beauty right into the new year.

I've been watching what's happening with Airbnb pricing in the Leavenworth area during the World Cup, and I'll be honest, it doesn't sit well with me.
Many listings have tripled and even quadrupled their usual nightly rates. Call it what you want, but inviting visitors into our community and then charging them three to four times the normal price doesn't reflect the kind of hospitality I believe in.
At Cody's Rest, our rates are the same year-round, just as they've always been. No surge pricing. No event inflation. Just fair, consistent pricing for guests who want to experience our area.
We should be welcoming people, not taking advantage of a moment.
If you're coming to Leavenworth for the World Cup and looking for an honest stay with no surprises, Cody's Rest is open and ready.
That said, June and July dates are filling fast, and we've already had multiple bookings confirmed.

Another little scene you’ll find in the kitchen at Cody’s Rest Airbnb is a set of three pictures hanging on the wall. The centerpiece is a painting by Stivers, given to me by Chicago photographer, David R Phillips more than 30 years ago. What makes it so meaningful is that in the background of Stivers work are two historic barracks. Both have long since disappeared, but they live on in his art.

Flanking the painting are two black-and-white photographs of those same barracks, giving visitors a glimpse into the history that inspired Stivers’ work. Stivers often used A.C. Nichols’ photographs as references to enhance his paintings, and here you can see how history and art come together in one spot on our kitchen wall.

Welcome to the bathroom at Cody’s Rest. The clawfoot bathtub to your left is original to the apartment and was once used by Mary Wolhlfrom, who lived here from her birth in 1884 until her passing in 1984—just shy of her 100th birthday. Over the years, there have been a few remodels, but the bathroom remains much as it was during Mary’s lifetime. Like the other rooms in the house, it is adorned with photographs from the past, preserving the history and spirit of this home.

One of the most beloved features of Cody’s Rest is its original architectural details—every door in the apartment is original, complete with antique locks, elegant porcelain k***s, and those beautiful transom windows above. These touches offer a truly authentic Victorian experience, rarely found today.

We owe a great deal of thanks to Mary Wohlfrom, who lived here from the time she was born—1886 to 1985—and cared for this apartment so lovingly throughout her life. Her stewardship preserved the charm we now get to share with guests.

This particular door, located in the entryway from the stairwell leading up from the street, is a standout. It resembles the solid, stately exterior doors found on homes in the 1870s—a reminder of the craftsmanship and care of a bygone era.

I took this photo in the kitchen of my Airbnb, Cody’s Rest, where guests are surrounded by photographs from our region’s past. To the left is an image of the pontoon bridge that once spanned the Missouri River—captured on its grand opening day.

Above it, perhaps one of the last known photographs of Amelia Earhart before her ill-fated attempt to fly around the world.

And to the right, a rare early photograph of the Dragoon barracks at Fort Leavenworth. It was once believed to be the work of E.E. Henry, but the age of the photo suggests it should be attributed to A.C. Nichols instead.

Each photograph in this space is a window into another time—just one of the many ways we honor our local history here at Cody’s Rest. 🖼️✨

I am thrilled to share that the author of two incredible books has been staying at Cody’s Rest during her creative writing weekends. One of these books was even partially written while they were there!

It’s incredible to think that our cozy space has inspired such talent. Knowing that Cody’s Rest was part of their creative process makes us even more proud of what we’ve created.
