My Story

I was born and raised in the KCK area. I am a dotte girl. I married my highschool sweetheart who was born at Fort Leavenworth (a Army Brat for sure). After High school and a bit of college I married that Army Brat and he joined the Marines. We have 6 children born all over the world. In 2010 He retired from the Marines (Semper Fi) and a couple of years later we moved back to the area.

During our time in the Marines I started crafting and with encouragement from another Military wife I started doing craft shows (thanks Amy Roberts). I used the craft shows to help pay for Christmas and other extra things (6 kids can be expensive). After we moved back to the area the hubster lost his job and I kicked up the crafting a notch to help us get through the rough patch. I added painted furniture. I would craft all month and then open my garage (barn) for a day or two and sell my wares. I did that for 2 years and then started taking my creations to the west bottoms (The Painted Sofa) and Smithville (Thorny Creek Market). In January of 2017 I was driving through downtown Leavenworth and spoted 421/423 Delaware St. was empty and ready for rent. I made up my mind in about 30 seconds to take the plunge. Out of the Barn was going to be a brick and mortar.

Out of the Barn opened as a brick and mortar on April 1, 2017. We sell repurposed furniture and home decor and of course my own sign creations. I offer classes for sign painting and lessons on how to paint your own furniture. I also offer spaces for rent for other crafter / creators in my shop. With several vendors plus myself there is always something new coming into Out of the Barn. Come in and see what I/we have been up to.
