Made In Ashland

Made In Ashland 'Made In Ashland' is a one man shop I started in my garage over the past few years. I build solid, wood furniture to last generations.

I have long hated the direction that current, mass produced, furniture making has taken. The cheap veneers and particle board used in current furniture construction only insures low prices and short furniture life. With fewer and fewer craftsman continuing to build quality furniture, I began acquiring the tools I would need to carry on a tradition that is slowly slipping away. I use only local, Ap

palachian, kiln dried hardwoods to produce quality furniture for generations to come. There is no pallet wood in my furniture. I build simple furniture with a slight shaker influence in a way that I can be proud to put my label on. Up until this point, I have worked in my spare time producing furniture to be sold in local resale shops or for friends and family. I am now taking my hobby a little more serious and am proud to say that I am now open for business.

Another happy client. This painted, storage bench turned out wonderful! No rest for the weary. On to the next build.

“Bucket List” build in shop this past month. I have always wanted to build one, and I finally got to do it. Beautiful, solid poplar corner cabinet. Every piece of this build was milled in the shop less the ply panels in the bottom doors. Painted to match the clients existing cabinets, this piece turned out beautifully. Though you can’t see it in the pictures, the middle shelf is a panel of tiger maple dyed dark brown and finished in satin lacquer. On to the next build tomorrow!

I finally finished the Pine Chest! It was placed on the back burner a few times, but it came out wonderful.

It has been a busy week in the shop! I just delivered and installed this beautiful, solid maple island top (cabinet was existing) and attaching table with cherry splines. Finished with a light wash coat of amber shellac and several coats of satin poly.

I still have a lot of sanding to do, but I should be applying color and finish next week. Now if I can only replicate an antique pine look. This piece should be for sale by next weekend.

Started a Pine Blanket Chest this past weekend. So far so good.

Hand made farm table. Built this one as a small prototype. Decided to use as a coffee table. Will be reproducing to larger dimensions. Antiqued, warm pine top with distressed, painted pine base. Top was left as single boards for more antique look. Turned legs with mortise and tenon joints. No Kreg jig construction. PM for prices.

A few past builds. All pieces are made to order and can be custom designed. Check out my page. PM for pricing.

A coworker of mine recently purchased a farm table from another woodworker on FB, and needless to say, it was a wreck. The guy charged him quite a sum of money to build this table and refused to stand behind his poor work. For some reason, some people think buying and using using a Kreg jig is woodworking. I brought the table to my shop, spent some time reworking a few things and it turned out great. I don't normally work with pine, but now I'm thinking about building a few to sell. Price will depend on the size. PM with any questions.

Our Story

I have long hated the direction that current, mass produced, furniture making has taken. The cheap veneers and particle board used in current furniture construction only insures low prices and short furniture life. With fewer and fewer craftsman continuing to build quality furniture, I began acquiring the tools I would need to carry on a tradition that is slowly slipping away. I began by us only local, Appalachian, kiln dried hardwoods to produce quality furniture for generations to come. I have recently relocated to Houston, Texas. Although I don't have access to local hardwoods, I am still building solid, pine furniture. There is no pallet wood in my furniture.
