I'm back, after several years absence. After covid, I had returned to being a scenic designer and carpenter for theater, which did not allow much time to do the pallet/garden stuff.
After five years, the garden I had built for my lovely wife during covid had deteriorated quite badly. It was originally built in a hurry and without enough thought about putting finishes on the wood that would keep them looking good and making them last longer.
Anyway, after all that time the garden had gotten shabby, so I tore down the old planters, and took down the bird-nest panels. Then we put down gravel and put in posts with footers. Then we re-conditioned the bird-nest panels and suspended them on the posts.
We chose to use galvanized steel planters, rather than making new ones out of pallets. They will last much longer.
Next, we put in a water feature, Which looks like water bubbling up from the earth - really cool! We also put in some nice decor pieces to give it a bit of a visual theme. And finally, we carved out a seating area, which we did not have in the original. Now we have sort of a meditative spot within the garden.
Over all, the garden project came out very nice. More importantly to me, it was a really nice collaborative design experience with Melanie - we make good design partners!
