Well.. we had a total crop loss...I mean we harvested about 150 little pumpkins and gourds... but donated them to the volunteers and the local fire department.

It was a rough year.. rain, Rabbits, w**ds, searing heat, deer, then drought.

We will try again next year.

Well I still havent died.. but i feel like i'm becoming a mix of wonder woman and the heat Meiser. Some shots of the progression of w**ding.(this is just one of the patches).. it gets a little disheartening when you leave on Sunday night in good shape and show up Friday to do it all over again.. good news is less and less w**ds... and the rescued pumpkins are rebounding... and there are the beginnings of blossoming and some baby pumpkins!

Hot! Hot! Hot! Tons of spring rain followed by hot sun-shiny days have given the w**ds steroid shots. It was a hot weekend but "operation rescue pumpkins from w**ds" commenced! Hand w**ding and rescuing the pumpkins from suffocation.. then the only option I had... w**deater... all plants have been hand w**ded... w**deating continues... the good news is I didn't die! Shout out to Johnna.... farm and pumpkin patch virgin... and she hung in there and didn't complain! Also.... Diatomaceous Earth sprinkled on plants! Lots of chewing on plants this year! But they seem to be growing through it! Deer or Rabbits?..

Rain grows w**ds, and lots of them! Im keeping up but I'll be glad when the pumpkin plants leaves start helping me shad...

Rain grows w**ds, and lots of them! Im keeping up but I'll be glad when the pumpkin plants leaves start helping me shade some of the w**ds out. Flame w**ding has been interesting.. and effective.... but my fields were a mess after last year's crop failure and w**d mega-load.

All in all... still looking for people to hoe around in the patches the next few weeks. You can put flame w**ding on your life resume.. you can earn a badge of best hoe in the patch... you can shower under the stars...

I know.. not a fun job.. but hit me up if you are a glutton for punishment! Lol

Pumpkin seed have been planted. Flower seeds too. 1813 plantings completed (approx 2720 seeds)... will plant the last 2 patches Saturday morning 5/31... about 340 plantings (approx510 seeds).

143 different varieties of pumpkins, squash, and gourds this year!

Also planted a mix of flowers all along the edges of the pumpkin patches. Marigolds, cosmos, coreopsis, French marigolds. Should be a beautiful show for us come a little later in the summer.

Also my neighbors are getting bees and the hives will be right across the road from the pumpkin patches. I wonder if the honey will taste different from all the pollen from squash blossoms?

Thank you to all the volunteers... we had many many people there.. so no one was too worn out... and then we played and ate and laughed!

Wanted to make a post... I've been seeing all the views.. and I'm sure people are wondering....where are the pumpkins? That is a good question. The crop was almost a total failure this year.. the few viable pumpkins are up at warm glow. There won't be any pumpkin mobile sales this year. I do have some edibles.. butternut squash.. honeynut...some different types of acorn squash... and a handful of other yummy squash! Hit me up if you would like to buy some yummy squash!

No worries... improvements to the processes have been and are being made... and we had the biggest harvest even yet...77 people... so we will be ready for next year! Flame w**ding is coming to our patches next year to try to help keep things growing and healthy!

Some times you win.. sometimes you don't! But it really only matters how you deal with things and how you move forward! We are moving forward with love in out hearts.. and determination in our souls!

Well the big fridge in the barn has died... it is fride only... no freezer... anybody have any connections to get a replacement? Probably going to buy a new one...but open to gently used... needs to be full sized fridge only... works wonderfully for camping... if you have any suggestions or connections... let me know!
