How cool!!!

The Creston area stands as a testament to the Flathead Valley’s multigenerational farmers, where acres of farmland with productive soils have mostly withstood recent change.

Drumroll please... Flathead Land Trust, along with our partners Flathead Audubon and the Flathead Lakers, just secured a major win for Montana's wild spaces and future generations! This morning, the State Land Board gave a unanimous thumbs up to purchasing a conservation easement on the Owen Sowerwine property, a legendary ecological gem east of Kalispell. This means that this stunning piece of Montana will be safeguarded forever, protecting its wild charm and crucial role in our ecosystem. This move also secures long-term funding for Montana's K-12 schools, so our kiddos can keep learning and growing.

And that's not all! We are honored and pleased to announce that our funding gap has been closed by local philanthropists, Jim and Lisa Stack! The project is now fully funded!

With those two major hurdles cleared, we anticipate finalizing the project in early 2024.

This is a huge moment for conservation in Montana, and we couldn't have done it without the incredible support of our partners and the amazing people who believe in protecting our wild heritage. THANK YOU!

Stay tuned for more updates as we cross the finish line and celebrate this epic win for Montana's wild spaces a

When Cindy Horn came up to the podium, tears were already brimming in her eyes. Her voice quivered as she began to speak. “We were walking on the river road decades ago when I simply pointed and said, ‘who owns this property?’” Horn said, addressing a crowd of 150 people gathered underneath ...

Possibly more public access!!

In lieu of a formal public access site at the region’s newest wildlife management area near Bad Rock Canyon in Columbia Falls, which is slated to include a primitive trail system, visitors have been accessing the 772-acre parcel along the Flathead River by parking along a U.S. Highway 2 right-of-w...
