There’s something special about a hometown.
No matter how far life takes you, your heart always finds its way back to the place that helped shape you. For me, that place is Lake City. This little town is more than just where I grew up — it’s part of who I am. Its streets hold my memories, its people hold my heart, and its future holds my hopes and dreams.
I’ve watched Lake City change through the years. I’ve seen seasons when things felt quiet and uncertain, and I’ve also had the blessing of watching this town come back to life over the past fifteen years in ways I once only dreamed of. Businesses have opened, friendships have formed, families have grown, and a renewed sense of pride has filled our downtown streets once again. To know I’ve been even a small part of helping that happen means more to me than words could ever say.
I’ve always believed that if you love something, you give it your all. That’s how I feel about my family, and that’s how I feel about this town. My children and grandchildren are here in Lake City, and nothing makes me happier than knowing they are growing, working, contributing, and becoming productive parts of society right here in the place we call home. Every effort we make to support our town is really an investment in them — in their future and in the generations still to come.
A town doesn’t grow because of one person. It takes a team. It takes people with determination, vision, and passion. It takes business owners who unlock their doors every morning with hope. It takes volunteers, leaders, dreamers, workers, and neighbors who believe small towns still matter. And thankfully, Lake City has those people. We have heart. We have grit. And we have people who genuinely care about making life better for others.
When we support our small businesses, encourage our community events, welcome visitors, and work together, we’re doing so much more than helping commerce. We are helping build memories for our children. We are creating opportunities for our grandchildren. We are writing the next chapter of Lake City’s story.
Someday, long after we are gone, I hope my children and grandchildren can walk these same streets and proudly say, “My Grandma helped make Lake City a better place.” There would be no greater honor than that.
Because in the end, a hometown isn’t just where you live.
It’s the legacy you leave behind.
