Everybody wants to be a beast, until it’s time to do beast things.

In this world, there will be many voices trying to influence you and persuade you to do things God has not asked you to do. But God has also given us the gift of discernment, the ability to recognize which influences come from Him and which do not.

Being a beast means being willing to go against the grain. It means uncovering the gifts and talents God has placed within you, and then having the courage to multiply those talents. When we do that, we show God that we appreciate what He has entrusted to us.

The scriptures teach us to be in the world, but not of the world. As we live that principle, we continue to look to our Heavenly Father. We ask, and we shall receive. We knock, and it shall be opened. We seek, and we will find.

Through our faith in Jesus Christ, we can do all things.

So follow your dreams. Do what you feel called to do, but do it while staying grounded, faithful, and obedient. Be in the world, but not of the world.

Three weeks ago, while waiting for my bone marrow biopsy and feeling too weak to move, I got a call that broke my heart a few rows at the vanilla farm had fallen. There was no saving them.

Physically exhausted from cancer, emotionally crushed by what I saw, and spiritually stretched thin… I asked, why now? What lesson am I supposed to learn from this? What more could I be doing?

And then I was reminded of the scripture:
“Be strong in thine afflictions, for it shall be but a small moment.” – D&C 121:7–8

Through it all, God never left me. He’s refining me like a silversmith, watching carefully until He can see His reflection in my countenance.

So even when it hurts, I’ll keep planting, keep praying, and keep trusting. Because the same God who allows the refining…
is the same God who brings the harvest.
