I stayed busy this weekend working on a home project we’ve been planning for years. 3 years ago we moved into a 1970’s home and are slowly renovating it, room by room. I’ve been logging the progress on if you want to watch me transform our outdated home into an industrial modern design.

Hey guys, I don’t post enough. I use Instagram as an outlet to document, and insta stories happens to be easiest for me. Unfortunately, after 24 hours, all that content goes away. So I’m gonna try and at least post after completed process’. Here’s a really, really tall cabinet. The cabinet body is nothing special. Purely functional. Faceframe, however, is where the effort was focused. My favorite feature on this build was the hidden handles. It’s clean, simple and, if you ask me, clever. Pretty fun and quick project. I continue to streamline the slatted process, so things are becoming faster, and better. Always. Improving. @ Lago Vista, Texas

Just finished up on another build. This custom desk was built to match the checkout counter I finished weeks back. (Still have to take pictures and post) privacy screen made from white oak, and also doubles as a elevated table for a monitor, while maximizing desktop area. Still waiting for the drawer pulls to come in, but I just had to post. Super stoked on the patina finish. I’ve been practicing my patina skills, and the results of this one, finally looks like I’m getting the hang of it.

The entrance to the new building is looking pretty clean. It’s the product of several months in the making. The newly finished reception desk balances out the shops entrance. Few more smaller projects left before opening day. @ Lago Vista, Texas

So I haven’t fully posted the project I’ve been tirelessly working at for the last few weeks. But there is something so satisfying with a nice custom fit. Not only does the counter fit like a puzzle piece. The entire section or cabinet had a to be built to work around this I beam, and strangely shaped wall. Pain? Yes! Worth it?! Absolutely! @ Hill Country Galleria, Austin, Texas

Here’s to the 4th Christmas since I started my maker career. Improvements and progress year after year. Here is my most recent project. Retail check out counters. This modern industrial style cash wrap is one heavy piece of furniture. With the steel frame, face frame and doors , this thing is made to last. Slatted white oak accents and patina plate steel, safe to say that this is one badass piece. It still needs some more work before it’s complete, but it’s taking shape in a hurry.

You may recall the entertainment center we finished up back in January, well the clients decided to compliment it with walnut sofa and side tables. Made from solid 8/4 walnut, these things are heavy, and solid. All waterfall edges, with a modernistic spin, these tables are a great addition to the, already beautiful, living room. If you love walnut, you’ll love this living room. @ Leander, Texas

When it comes down to it, my passion is problem solving. Sure I love building, fabricating and designing, but these are just tools I use to solve problems. For this project, I designed an organizer that slipped into this existing recessed spot in a tile wall. This not only made the spot more efficient, but it covered up some of the imperfections around the edge of the recess. As you can see from the before and after; much more appealing and efficient.

My favorite type of projects are ones you can start, and finish, in a weekend. But more importantly, it’s the first project I tried to capture from start to finish. Here’s a sneak peak while I parse through the 20gigs of footage I accumulated during the build process. I am a complete novice when it comes to video editing; but you gotta start somewhere. Hopefully everything was in focus.

When you have a store in the heart of downtown, every square inch counts. I had the task of getting the most out of this, under 100 sq ft, office. The angled shelving was built specifically for steel-framed-walls. The main desk was made with a bit of flare, and a simple side desk to match. Making the most out of the space, I think we managed to do a good job. The only problem; taking a photo. The space was so small, it was pretty difficult to get a good shot. But I’d figure I’d share.

Sometimes, an idea in my head doesn’t turn out as great as I had envisioned. I think that’s all a part of growing as a designer. I have no problem scrapping a, nearly completed, project because I have already mentally revised it a number of times during the building process. Fortunately, for this I was able to, easily enough, revamp my currently layout to something a little better. I think the end result is much better. Don’t you?
