Layers and textures. Don’t be afraid to experiment with both! Some of my favorite ways to add texture to a space:
⭐️Millwork! We were really lucky to find a home that already had incredible millwork. But here we added some wainscoting that adds another layer and helps gives interest to large empty walls. Picture frame moulding, beadboard, board and batten..there are lots of DIY friendly millwork options!
⭐️Mixing materials - here you see metal, ceramic, stone, wood, crystal, wicker, fabric. If your space feels like it’s missing something, try adding a material you don’t have. A wooden box on a shelf, a soft throw across a chair, a ceramic vase with flowers, an alabaster bowl on a table!
⭐️Patterns. Don’t be afraid to add more pattern! They don’t have to match, they just have to “go”. Try mixing different sizes in the same color palette or pulling in a color from an adjoining room in a pattern on a curtain or even a small decorative object!
⭐️Plants! I am very picky about faux stems but there are some good ones out there! Throw a real fern in a pot on your side table or some stems from (like these $5 ones!) in a vase on your counter for instant lived-in texture 😍
