Between the snow and freezing temps outside, it’s putting a damper on the shop. We apologize for the delays on projects and posts. We’ve unfortunately had to slow down. Luckily, things are looking up this week so we can hopefully get back to full speed ahead! We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience with us while we wait for things to warm up.

Happy Sunday and Enjoy Snow Day #284. 🥴

Did you know we’re really good at keeping secrets? Whether it’s asking for a secret restore/build for a family member, or even an upcoming engagement proposal, we’ve got you covered! 💍

We were truly honored to keep this special holiday secret and bring a dream to life! This beautiful ring box was made with live edge walnut and placed fabric felt inside the opening to hold the ring in place for this special occasion!

Thank you for trusting Ky’s Kustom with this project! Congrats to Kaitlyn and Blake on their engagement! ❤️

We finally got all of our photos put together from the delivery/install last weekend!! We had 2 projects that we’ve been working on for the same customer. So here it goes!!

Project 1: We built a custom 8 foot long Cedar dining table with a matching 8 foot long Cedar Bench. Both the table and the bench top feature custom breadboard ends for that farmhouse style feel. The bench and tabletop were sanded smooth at 220 grit and clear coated with General Finishes Satin. The table frame was custom built by my dad, Phil Sage, and features beautiful ,custom, hinge style leveling feet. The frame was clear coated in it’s natural state to preserve that rustic steel look. Thank you, Dad, for all of your help with this project. It really means the world to me!

Project 2: We built two 48in and two 42in shelves to compliment the beautiful fireplace in the new-construct home. We used two 9 foot long slabs of live edge walnut to make all 4 shelves. We debarked the shelves, sanded to a smooth 220 grit, and clear coated with General Finishes Satin.

Caleb Feige and I had an absolute blast with these projects and learned so much along the way. We can’t thank Kandace and Ken Edwards enough for allowing us to build some really neat projects for their brand new custom built home. Can’t wait for our first family dinner around this massive table!

Here at Ky’s Kustoms, we know that things are weird right now and life is a little bit hard. We hope everyone is happy, healthy, and doing well! We pray that is all over soon!!

Also, check out my Aunt Kandace’s photography skills with these projects! Thanks for capturing the pure beauty!

Shoutout to my wife, Kelsey Sage, for being patient with me through all of the long hours spent on these projects. Y’all, get you a good partner who encourages you to go to the shop and build your dreams. I am definitely blessed to have her by my side.

One last thank you to my Grandma Carol Romick Sage for all of the late night fresh baked cookies, they really keep us going through these projects!

Just to clarify some of the process, we poured the epoxy directly over the existing laminate countertops. Here is a video on how we got some of the color and swirl affect. We drizzled 2 different colors and then rolled over to somewhat spread the color out and then the chemical reaction in the epoxy took over and made the beautiful finished swirl look!

Y’ALL. 👏

We’ve been busy the last couple weekends on a few projects with the nice weather but this one was by far our biggest project to date! We had the pleasure of helping the Awtry family redo their kitchen and both bathroom countertops and they turned out amazing!
On the countertops in the kitchen and both bathrooms, we used Leggari Epoxy Countertop products and finished off with a semi-glossed urethane scratch-resistant top coat.
In the kitchen, we installed tin sheets and added a cedar border for a classic rustic touch to replace the under-counter wall carpet. We also installed a live edge piece next to the pantry for additional counter space (which baby Colton seems to enjoy!). The live edge is made of a 4 foot slab of hackberry wood sealed with a US General’s Satin finish and placed on custom-built and painted 90 degree brackets for a floating countertop aesthetic.

Thank you Awtry family for trusting Ky’s Kustom with your home project that you can enjoy for many years to come! 🛠

Knocked out this beautiful 2 1/2 foot live edge serving tray a few weeks ago! We filled the knot with battleship grey epoxy for a depth affect. Then finished with Walrus Oil Cutting Board Oil. Finally, we added 5in handles and rubber feet to protect any surface that it’s set on!
