Quick little update.
The chickens are doing great in their new coop and run. (Forgot to post an update when we first got them 🤦🏼‍♀️)
We’ve been crazy busy with day-to-day life but in the small spaces between we’ve been working on building a fence for the backyard. As with most things on this property, the biggest challenge has been the ever-present sloped layout of the land. However, all the blood sweat and tears will pay off in the end!
We’ve been harvesting, drying and fixing up some salves, tinctures and teas in an effort to be able to heal ourselves without the need of unnecessary medicine. More on this to come!
Our garden has been flourishing! Dallas harvested (and ate) his first banana pepper and he’s very “patiently” waiting for the tomatoes to turn so he can pluck those as well!

I’ll try to stay on top of updates in the future, but don’t hold your breath. 😅✌🏼

I know, I know. I havent posted in ages. I’m gonna try to do better, just don’t hold your breath too long.
Anyways, spring has sprung and dozens of projects have been underway. Our biggest has been the garden. This is honestly what has taken up the bulk of our free time. (Seriously gardening is like a full time job!) But if all of that wasn’t enough we decided we’d throw some chickens in the mix!
So for the past two weeks we’ve been hard at work building a chicken coop and getting the land ready to install the coop and run!
Word to the wise: plan how you’ll get the thing to the place before you start building it…

We’ve just got to figure out how to get this coop down the yard and on the posts, finish up the insulation and trim, add a roof and fix up the run. And we’ll be ready for our girls!

Completely refinished. This entire desk has been sanded down to original wood, repaired and conditioned to last for many years to come.
Top has a natural wood finishing stain and topped with a stain sealer.
Desk has been painted in P&L Savannah Moss, with matching drawer faces. And sealed with poly for protection.
Pulls are 3” Bin Cup Drawer handles in “antique copper”.
Drawers have be lined and sealed inside, for easy cleaning as needed.
30” tall
42” long
17 3/4” deep

The transformation of this dresser has truly astounded me.
I couldn’t even begin to guess at how many hours I’ve spent on this piece.
This dresser was hand crafted in the 1880’s, so I knew I wanted to take my time and breathe new life in to this piece.
I stripped, scraped and sanded 140 years worth of old stain and sealer to reveal the beauty of the wood underneath.
I replaced the wheels with blocked feet to provide more stability, sealed up any cracks in the wood and fortified any loose boards. I then applied a wood conditioner and then a semi-transparent stain.
The outcome speaks for itself! I’m so in love with this piece. For now, it’s residing in our house, but as my husband tells me, I “can’t keep every piece I fall in love with”, so maybe one day I’ll find it a new home. 🖤🖤

Considering this piece is over 120 years old, I’m taking my time stripping away the stain and sealant. It’s a very long process, but each layer reveals such beauty!! I’m pretty certain I’ll just be adding a clear sealer when it’s all done. This wood is just too gorgeous to cover with stain!

I found a treasure the other day!!

I’ve been looking for a dresser to flip for Sadie. She has way too many clothes and her smaller dresser is overflowing!
I stumbled across this old beauty and when i pulled out the top drawer and saw the joints, i knew I had to bring it home.
Over the weekend I started researching what year this piece could be from. What i found was surprising! Everything pointed to this dresser being built in between 1860-1900. 😳 So I decided to send some pictures to an appraiser. Sure enough, the appraiser believes this piece to have been made in the late 1800’s. A Victorian style mahogany or walnut commode!
How cool is that?!?!

I’m in full refurbish mode on this piece. So more to come soon!!

(I also figured out if you have your daughter help you bring in 3 pieces of old furniture in to the garage BEFORE your husband gets home, he’s not as mad that you bought a truck bed full of furniture in a day! 😬)
