One of the things we love about having great partners is being able to send homeowners somewhere they can actually see, touch, and experience their options.

We stopped by our friend Thomas at TRS Designs in King of Prussia, and this is exactly why having a showroom matters. Seeing cabinet styles, finishes, door profiles, countertops, and hardware in a real-world setting can make a huge difference when making decisions for your home.

You can scroll pictures online all day, but there’s something empowering about getting hands-on and seeing how everything works together before making a big investment.

Big thanks to Thomas for always helping homeowners make confident decisions.

Mistake #5: Assuming cabinet installation is simple

Cabinet installation sets the foundation for everything that follows. If cabinets aren’t level, plumb, and aligned properly, it can affect countertops, appliances, and the final appearance of the entire kitchen. The difference between an 'amazing' kitchen and an 'alright' kitchen is often the installation.

Let TRS Designs help you avoid all of the mistakes and ensure you get a kitchen you LOVE!

Mistake #4: Buying materials before confirming measurements

Even small measurement mistakes can create big installation problems. Appliances, cabinetry, fillers, and countertop dimensions should all be verified before ordering. Identifying potential issues that could require adjustments to site conditions lets us plan accordingly and not waste time & money reordering products that didn't fit.

Mistake #3: Underestimating the budget

Many remodel budgets are based on incorrect or arbitrary costs. Cabinetry, countertops and appliances might be the big budget items, but often overlooked are electrical and plumbing work, trim, fixtures, and delivery fees. Hidden surprises often lurk behind walls. Small costs add up quickly. Only by fully developing a kitchen project can we have a clear picture of its total costs.

Mistake #2: Designing for looks instead of function

A kitchen can look amazing in pictures and still be frustrating to use every day. Workflow matters: appliance placement, prep space, traffic flow, and storage often make a bigger difference than finishes alone. By fully planning out the kitchen, we can identify both how you want to work in it and how it will work for you.

Mistake #1: Starting demolition too early

Excitement takes over and cabinets come out before every decision is finalized. Then midway through the project, homeowners are still selecting materials and layouts. Lead times for materials can be longer than anticipated creating unnecessary down time or delays. A complete plan before demolition saves time, money, and stress.

Thinking about remodeling your own kitchen? Here are 5 common mistakes homeowners make:

1) Starting demolition before finalizing the plan
2) Designing for looks instead of function
3) Underestimating the budget
4) Buying materials before verifying measurements
5) Assuming cabinet installation is easy

A beautiful kitchen starts with good planning.
