I designed what's known as a tensegrity table. The idea behind it is there is no solid connection between the top and bottom and with the proper tension, the top doesn't move except very slightly and its only a minor wiggle. Also, in the proper light or with the proper background, the wires will disappear completely making the top appear to hover magically.
Unfortunately, my design using wood for the supporting vertical structure does not provide enough structural integrity to support the weight of the top. In my tests, the wood sheared along a grain line.
The other pictures are the new "improved" version using wood. 1.5" post supporting the top with black wire rope stabilizing the outer corners.
