All the windows openings were boarded over for weather proofing but will be cut out once the units arrive.

A beautiful set of banister backs from ~1780 done with natural rush.

These cattails were cut in late July and set to dry for 6 weeks before being soaked for 12 hours to then be twisted and woven into the pattern.
The leaves of the cattails are usually 4-6 feet long so it takes about a full armload (about 50 plants) of cattails to weave just one seat. The bases of the plants are saved and used to stuff the voids in the 4 triangles of the seat, this helps the seat remain firm and tight.
There were many really interesting details in these chairs; the bannisters were not uniform and each had their own quirks and details, several of the tenon shoulders were coved to fit against the round of the legs. My favorite detail about them was how light they were, only about 5-7 pounds even with the seat on.

We met of at the this past May.
She sent us home with these three gorgeous 18th century Italian made chairs.
The first pictured is from a set of 6 made in ~1740.
The second pictured had a cracked frame that needed repair before the seat was woven. The corners on this one are really interesting how they pass horizontally through the legs.

Our bee yard has quickly grown over the past month. We added a captured swarm as well as two colonies that we were asked to remove from a residence. Harvested the honey from our mature colony as well which yielded 3 gallons of honey. We have a little surplus so if you would like a pint or two let us know!
