We would like to thank all of our customers and friends who have reached out to us during this difficult time. The events that have unfolded since the shooting of Jacob Blake have been especially devastating for our Kenosha community. We thought it was time to give an official update from our furniture store.
Although we will not know the full extent of the damage until assessment in a few days we are grateful to say there does not appear to be any significant fire or water damage to our store—unlike our neighboring stores who suffered tremendous fire and water damage and suffered a total loss as a result. It’s a miracle that our store is still standing 🙏🏼
Most of the damage that we suffered came from looters and rioters who either stole inventory or damaged what they could not take. We had some significant smoke damage as well. Our storefront and showcase was destroyed and our back door was broken so bigger items can be stolen more easily. There is structural damage to the entire strip mall which is raising concerns of inadequate internal support. For safety reasons, we ask that onlookers heed with caution as we do not not how structurally sound these buildings are right now.
The inventory in our basement was almost cleared out— mattresses and box springs, coffee and end tables, large stereo speakers, headboards, footboards, lamps and many other smaller items we sell like; wall art, throw pillows and home accessories. Our television and computer and other small electronics were stolen from the front office. We also had some personal items that were being stored downstairs which were tossed and destroyed and/or taken.
There has been so much devastation to small businesses like ours and our hearts go out to everyone affected by this. At the same time we are so blessed by the outreach of love and support from the community. Today we had many artists come out and show their support with a heartfelt display painted on our now boarded up storefront. Thank you for reminding us all that our community will come together and rebuild stronger than ever 🤍
Due to the uncertainty of the structural damage we don’t know how or when we can reopen. So in the meantime we ask that our customers shop at our main warehouse located in Racine at 1610 Washington Ave. We have many people asking about their layaway items. We are grateful to say that our layaway files are safe and secured. We have transferred them to our Racine location so please see one of our associates there and they would be happy to assist you. Again, we thank you all for your continued support during this difficult time.
From everyone here at Furniture Warehouse, stay safe and remember we are !
