Well, it can never be said Clean 2 Preserve llc doesn't stand behind our estimates!!
We've done a few jobs for this particular client and they love our work, so they have us back when they need things done.
I never mess up on estimates but this one I murdered in numerous ways!
I bid this rollform gutter job and there was a little confusion in the beginning, we thought we were just doing the carport side and I made the estimate and measured via app. Somehow I wrote down the wrong length 60 feet when in reality it was 70 feet. First error.
Then when the client recieved it he said, we need both sides done. So I reworked it added 60 for the other side and added in the gutter guards he wanted. At this point I remembered when we did the siding repair for them a while back that the home was longer than the carport and lanai side by 12 feet.
So I remeasured and luckily figured out that it was 70 feet on one side and 82 feet on the other.
I rebuilt my estimate accordingly and fixed the footage and materials needed then added in labor.
All set.
I sent the estimate later that day to the client. Second error. They loved it, signed it and we ordered supplies to be delivered to the property and scheduled the job.
The first day of the job (it took two days it was insanely hot 90's with no breeze so we knocked off at 1 p.m.) The client came out and handed me the signed estimate. I put it into the file and kept working.
That night I put some receipts in the file and saw the estimate again and my heart dropped. I realized I had sent the wrong estimate. Not only for 22 feet less material but no labor added for the other side because I realized at that point that my figures were off. It was the first estimate I sent and they signed.
I did the numbers and realized after materials and paying my employee and gas we would make approximately $31.67 cents on a two day job in hellish heat!
That second day was even harder with this knowledge in my head but we powered through.
After I received the check I told my client what had happened and that, no, we wouldn't be asking or expecting more for the job nor would we accept it. He had already added a tip and that was what he did.
I made the estimate and I'll learn from this mistake. I just asked him to pass it on and if anyone asks Clean 2 Preserve definitely stands behind their estimates!
