The past week brought even more exciting progress to our current builds!

Earlier in the week, volunteers completed more concrete work at Heather’s home ( #103), pouring sidewalks leading to the front and back doors along with the driveway. Jessica and Joyce also had some fun creating stepping stones from leftover concrete for Jessica’s future home ( #105).

Despite the wind, Saturday brought 40 volunteers together to keep the momentum going. All four future homeowners — Jessica, Nery, Cazbi, and Heather — were on site alongside friends and family helping throughout the day.

Most of the work focused on Cazbi’s house ( #104), where volunteers painted the north and south sides with two fresh coats of green paint, installed windows, and continued siding work on the east and west sides. Another crew worked on building the garden shed, while Ken helped caulk around the windows.

Members of the building committee continued work inside Heather’s house by preparing for door and woodwork installation and adding shelves in the closets.

Some big things have been happening at Heather and Cazbi's houses this month! Here is everything you need to know to get caught up!

Heather’s home ( #103) is quickly coming together with new sidewalks, driveway and porch concrete poured. Flooring, carpet, and cabinetry have been installed, and interior touches like lights, fans, and bathroom tile are completed. A special thank you goes out to the amazing Kearney High School volunteers who helped support their co-worker Heather by earning volunteer hours toward her new home.

At Cazbi’s home ( #104), volunteers kept momentum going with siding installation, spreading fill dirt around the foundation, and preparing for the garden shed pour. Huge thanks to the Buffalo Roofing crew for donating their time and talent to shingle the roof! Inside, volunteers also completed reinforcement of the master bedroom “safe room” closet with three layers of plywood.

Big shout out to Knights of Columbus and Century Lumber for providing lunches for our volunteers!

Last week, the Building Committee began installing upper cupboards in Heather's home ( #103) and marking the exterior of Cazbi's house ( #104) for siding to begin, each step bringing both homes closer to completion.

At Heather's house on Saturday, the bright yellow exterior began to come to life one coat at a time, while others worked to fill and shape dirt around the foundation. Inside, tile work in the bathroom moved forward as additional volunteers installed lower cupboards and Roger installed ceiling fans.

At Cazbi's house, roof vents were installed and siding is now underway thanks to the help of our volunteers. Around the site, others pitched in to organize supplies and clear bush, helping keep everything moving forward.

We're grateful for the 40 volunteers who showed up ready to work, your support is what keeps this progress possible!

We had another week of steady progress and teamwork last week!

During the week, volunteers installed blueboard, continued structural work, and cleaned up the interior of Cazbi's house #104. Ken and Joyce also got the first coat of paint on Heather's garden shed, while city crews handled seeding and site cleanup nearby.

On Saturday, volunteers stayed out of the cold weather by painting shelves, prepping materials, and getting ready for upcoming builds inside the warehouse.

At the site, volunteer crews made great progress on Cazbi's house by finishing roofing sheets, installing fascia boards, and adding cement board around the foundation. Work continued at Heather's house #103 as well with interior prep and carpet tack strips installed. Painters wrapped up the day with a third coat of bright yellow on Heather's home - bringing in plenty of happy energy to wrap up the weekend!
