Rust & Root Furniture Rust & Root Furniture combines Hawaiian hardwoods with contemporary design. We are pursuing that dream every day, except for Sundays!

You can become one of our clients for custom work, or come select a piece from our showroom. Rust & Root Furniture was started in the summer of 2016 with the dream of creating new and innovative designs in furniture.

Custom coffee table. A fun and challenging build because of the size and angled body/round corners. We used a combination of thick veneer and solid sapele and after a lot of planning and a few revisions, got it all together. Great to see it installed!

Many months of work and then a long day of installing. So happy to see this piece finally come together. This bedroom overlooks the ocean on a beautiful piece of Kauai. Hope the clients are happy with their new home; is doing a beautiful job with the interior. Grateful it’s done, on to the next one!

Coffee cart. This piece was made for a hotel to the designer’s specs. Unfortunately due to budget constraints, I couldn’t custom fabricate the wheels and ordered them from an Amish cart shop in Pennsylvania.

The tones of the marble ended up matching the monkeypod pretty nicely. Initially the designers wanted lapis lazuli stone, which is a beautiful blue color (everything in this project was blue) and was super expensive and pretty much unobtainable.

I found this marble locally, and it had blue veins that they thought would match nicely. Unfortunately the first stone fabricator totally screwed up but thankfully saved the project at the last minute. I’m incredibly grateful for their help.

Walnut plywood ceiling panels, perforated to allow light to come through from above. We cut translucent acrylic panels to match the size and shape of the walnut, and then there will be LED light panels behind that. I’m excited to see how it looks when it’s all together!

This side table is pretty simple — five pieces of walnut joined together. We use a combination of CNC machining and hand tools for different parts of the process, keeping things fun and interesting in the shop.

So many hours of work condensed into two minutes. I don’t think that I’ve taken a day off since starting this project a couple weeks ago, but it feels good to work hard on something and then see it finished.

Thanks to for putting in some long hours to get these done on time.

We’ve been so busy - I looked at when I last posted a reel and it was over two weeks ago. Oh well… I will try to be more consistent with updating the instagram. It always ends up being the last priority.

This is a quick shot of making a 1” radius on the bottom of a side table. A little sanding and it’ll be ready to get the legs glued!

Nice to do a quick project that can get done in a few days. Lots of complicated furniture coming up, so I’m grateful for a straightforward relatively simple piece.
