Large Cylinder Music Box
I found the original music box in an antique store in Kailua. The box was not the original and it was cobbled together from years of use and probably being dropped more than once.
The new box is made for curly koa with pheasant wood highlights and mother-of-pearl inlay and period ormolu. The hardware is all solid brass. There are two lids, one to cover the entire box and one that protects the mechanism from dust when it is being played. I don’t know the tunes it plays and if anyone can identify them it would be fun to know. There is a similar music box in the King Kalakaua collection from the early 1880’s.

Primavera Slab Bar Top
This beautiful 12’ slab of Hawaiian Primavera came from Bart Potter and had some natural elements that need to be refined for its final home as a bar top in West Oahu. There was a bark void that was filled with a cut off from sizing the slab. The random shape was routed and then filled with matching wood. The finish is 5 coats of satin polyurethane.

Keepsake Boxes
Made of various Hawaiian wood and lined with camphor wood from Kaneohe these boxes are the result of years of refinement in design and construction. They are assembled using a half blind tongue and groove joint that I have found to be very strong and reliable and pleasant to view. This run is made from the wood of several different trees of koa, primavera and kamani.

Congratulations to Larry Silva on his service to the Priesthood for 50 years. This curly koa box is inlayed with mother-of-pearl and abalone and then laser etched with the Coat of Arms of Bishop Larry Silva of the Roman Catholic Church. The hinges are solid brass with stop and the front lock is an English half mortise set with brass faces and a steel skeleton key. The inside is laser inscribed with the date and achievement of Larry Silva and is lined with black velvet.

A beautiful set of 6 dining chairs from curly koa. The hapu'u motif on the back and arms has been something I have wanted to try out for some time. I really like how the fiddle necks unfurl into fronds. The design required a three piece back splat that added to the comfort of the chair.
