It's been a long time since I've posted a project like this one. I'm still healing from my surgery and am grateful for the miracle of being seizure-free! Thank you God.

A client came to me asking if I could help him out with a walnut desktop. I agreed to, as I am feeling good with my healing process. It's cool to see things that I haven't done in quite a while start kicking back in. I hand selected 3 boards that lined perfectly up with each other. You can follow the pictures to get a feel of the process. The top had the edges cut and flipped 180 degrees, where it was reglued, making it twice as thick. This could only be done as it was part of the same board with the same moisture levels.

I ended up using more of my CNC machine that I'm starting to get a more experienced with...with a lot of learning to go! I was able to create straight surfaces in preparation for finishing the piece.

Underneath, there were supports installed for stability over time, keeping it straight. The last steps included edging with a 1/8" round over bit, then sanded with multiple grits. A lot of time and paying attention with good lighting was needed. It turned out beautiful! It was one of those I wanted to keep.😀

My client was so happy and he did a good job applying the finish that will be with his family for a long time. A big thank you to him. I'm still healing and making progress!

Happy New Year. It's interesting that the last time I posted anything here, aside from my personal page, has been 414 days! The last entry brings to mind many hard times I have been through, in learning appreciation of where I'm at now.

Since then, many skills that were limited for a period of time are starting to be recognized again. As a result, I'm starting to do more in reference to woodworking. I was able to create a gift for my wife.

In a matter of 2-3 months, I was able to build a shelving unit to the dimensions my wife has been looking for, over a year, stained to match the furniture around. It's cool to see the beginning rough cut lumber end up as a very detailed piece of furniture desired.

Continuing to give myself grace is important, and so is recognizing progression. I'm grateful for miracles... thank you Heavenly Father.

Hey everyone, the last time I posted anything was July 31, about 3 1/2 months ago. I have updated my personal friend page to a point, but now I'm letting you know, too.

My surgery at Cleveland Clinic on Aug. 1st was a success! Thank you for all the prayers in my behalf. After surgery, I was initially thinking I would be back to the norm in less than a month. Boy was I wrong! I went in with an unobtainable expectation, not giving my body the time to heal. Today it's been over 14 weeks and I'm still healing. When you have your brain worked on, every expectation is different per person, but if it's going to be done, you need to take your time and give yourself grace.

Healing has been taking time and as for the seizures...I am seizure free! Thanks to my Heavenly Father and those directed by him and your prayers. It's amazing the fact that I am seizure free, experiencing situations I've never dealt with. In the past I compared everything with seizures, being born with it. I'm learning about my body that is definitely new to me. I feel like maybe an 8-month old child driving a motorcycle - a lot of work ahead!

Physical, emotional, and spiritual healing are all different and heal at different rates. Physically, I'm doing much better, but not done. Emotionally, I'm still healing. The operation removed an area that dealt with my emotions, so they are now being redefined. There can be a lot of ups and downs. I'm so grateful for my family and friends that have been backing me the whole way, particularly my wife.

Spiritually, I have come closer to my Father in Heaven than I have been for a while. I know he's there and loves me! I love being closer to him and look forward to the future. He loves us all, even though sometimes we don't understand why "something" happens, there's a purpose.

As for my focus, I still love woodworking and will continue to do so as my body heals, in addition to a new focus that has been given to me...I am writing a book focusing on the miracles that I've experienced. I look forward to giving love and hope to all those that have seizures. Also, I hope the book will help family and friends understand what it's like to have seizures, and how awesome they are as they show love and support.

To all...the last couple days have been very busy in the Cleveland Clinic with pre-op testing filled with a lot of waiting and eating out. I'm ready for that to end. Based upon the additional testing, my plan for surgery has been solidified. It amazes me how so many puzzle pieces are falling into place, with the help of our Heavenly Father. I had a day off with my wife where we were able to drive to Erie, PA, enjoying my last day as the person that I am. A new door is opening. I love my wife who is so patient and Christ-like...couldn't ask for better! I just received the call from neurosurgery, letting me know I check in early tomorrow morning and surgery begins at 7:30am EST. I feel great and know things will go well. I appreciate all the support many of you have shown, and ask for your continued prayers.

To all my customers, here is a post of an upcoming procedure that will affect the future of Excalibur WoodWorks:

This picture was taken on what seemed to be the happiest day of my life! I was with my awesome wife and daughter, that I love so much. This is the day I was released from the Epilepsy Center of the Cleveland Clinic. It wasn't fun at all as the seizures began. In actuality, it seemed like hell for quite some time. But still, it was needed to find what triggered my seizures and where to see if I was a likely candidate for corrective surgery. Results came in over a month ago, that verified that I am a candidate for the corrective surgery. Is there any question as to "should I do it?", NOT AT ALL. Once this was known, there has been continual peace - knowing it is the right step moving forward. It's now actually less than a week away before I head back to the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. I will have a few more tests done to verify that I'm good for surgery, then on Aug 1st, I will be admitted to the surgery center for a left antero-mesial temporal resection, or in shorter terms, brain surgery. This is a blessing from God. It's amazing how so many things had to fall into place just right for this to happen, and I will not deny His help. I don't think I truly understand what it can be like not having to worry about seizures, because I've always had epilepsy from the time I was born. I feel that many changes are just around the corner, and while some doors are closing, even more are opening! I'm excited for this, and do ask for your prayers in my behalf for a good recovery. To become seizure free is a miracle that I truly believe can happen. Thank you to all my family and friends for the support over many years! Thank you to our Heavenly Father.

Here are pics of some custom "built-in" units I designed to the clients specifications. It ended up being a longer project, but turned out great! It will soon have a dark oak mantle that I'm currently building. Thank you to this client!

A client brought me a piece that had damage caused by pets. I initially declined the project, until the idea of putting an apron on top - covering the majority of the damage, came to mind. Matching the color is always a challenge in itself! In all, it turned out well. Thank you to the client for the opportunity.

A friend gave me the opportunity of building a coin holder in the form of the American Flag. It turned out fabulous! It is 36 inches wide, 20 inches high, and 2 inches deep. It displays up to 100 coins. Thank you to all who serve our country!

The shop has been just about completely fixed and I'm now back into my projects. Here is a vintage chest with glove boxes that had extensive damage. The piece was restored, requiring stripping the old finish, filling in cracks, applying new finishes, and making the piece structurally sound. Turned out great!
