It's been a long time since I've posted a project like this one. I'm still healing from my surgery and am grateful for the miracle of being seizure-free! Thank you God.
A client came to me asking if I could help him out with a walnut desktop. I agreed to, as I am feeling good with my healing process. It's cool to see things that I haven't done in quite a while start kicking back in. I hand selected 3 boards that lined perfectly up with each other. You can follow the pictures to get a feel of the process. The top had the edges cut and flipped 180 degrees, where it was reglued, making it twice as thick. This could only be done as it was part of the same board with the same moisture levels.
I ended up using more of my CNC machine that I'm starting to get a more experienced with...with a lot of learning to go! I was able to create straight surfaces in preparation for finishing the piece.
Underneath, there were supports installed for stability over time, keeping it straight. The last steps included edging with a 1/8" round over bit, then sanded with multiple grits. A lot of time and paying attention with good lighting was needed. It turned out beautiful! It was one of those I wanted to keep.😀
My client was so happy and he did a good job applying the finish that will be with his family for a long time. A big thank you to him. I'm still healing and making progress!
