Last furniture flip of the season 😢

This dresser turned out EXACTLY how I envisioned it! Some pieces you love so much you just can’t sell… this was one of those pieces 💕 Also, that “secret drawer” might have been the deal breaker for me 😅 I’m so excited to be keeping this piece for my home - might be my new favorite piece of furniture 👀

This is an Italian provincial, Drexel mahogany dresser. If you’re familiar with my furniture pieces this summer, you’ll recognize this piece looks very familiar… I did this exact dresser (just the 9 drawer version) for a client earlier this summer. My client opted for a lighter stain while I wanted something a bit warmer. Scroll through my feed and let me know which one you prefer ✅

Step by step ⬇️

FIRST, save this video for later so you don’t loose the info 📍

•remove hardware and drawers.

•label drawers.

•apply st****er to drawers. (work on 1-2 drawers at a time)

•scrape off st****er and scrub with acetone.

•wipe back all remaining residue with acetone soaked rag.

•apply the same method above to the whole body of the dresser. again, working in small sections at a time.

•seal the dresser with clear shellac.

•spray paint wash. I did about 5 coats (4-6tbsp paint to about 2 cups of water)

•paint around the frame of your drawers.

•apply two coats of top coat.

•lightly spray/tone your cleaned hardware.

•apply gold wax to hardware for an extra level of depth.

•sand the sides of the drawers and drawer glides with 220 grit.

•apply wax to sides of the drawers.

The “rainy dresser” is all done ☔️ If you’ve been around in my stories you know that this dresser got its nickname because I literally drove at 8pm one night last month IN THE POURING RAIN to grab this off the side of the road… did I also mention I was sick and did it by myself 👀 Yes, I’m insane. Detailed tutorial ⬇️

🔹first, comment “SUPPLY” so you have the exact list of tools I used!

🔹remove all hardware and label your drawers. Vintage drawers tend to like going back exactly where they were 😅

🔹scrub the mess out of your piece! I did three rounds. Three rounds were 100% needed! Having a clean foundation is key.

🔹apply filler for large chunks missing, and glazing putty for small dents/scratches.

🔹sand with 180 and 220 grit. This smooths out your filler and scuff sands the piece in prep for paint.

🔹go in with your second round of putty/filler. Not always needed but that wasn’t the case for this dresser.

🔹sand smooth again with 220 grit.

🔹prep syringes with wood glue, and repair dovetailed drawer joints.

🔹seal with clear shellac spray to prevent bleed through of wood tannins.

🔹paint the drawer edges/trim. This can be done at a later step but I personally like to do it before I spray my paint.

🔹prep sprayer for paint. ALWAYS strain your paint!

🔹spray 1st coat of Farmhouse Paint. No primer needed and scratch proof in an hr. I’ve done my tests, this stuff is amazing!

🔹apply 3rd round of glazing putty and sand smooth.

🔹spray 2nd coat of paint.

🔹refinish original hardware with a brass spray paint and gilding wax.

🔹clean up the drawer insides and sand any rough edges

🔹list for sale!

Finally moving this cutie into its forever home today! 💖 I’ll share in my stories when we get it moved in, and the new room organized.

Been MIA in my stories lately, but I am working - just doing a little less posting since August has been a crazy month!
