One of the easiest ways to bring more personality into a kitchen without overwhelming the space is mixing cabinet colors.

Keeping the uppers lighter and going darker or warmer on the lowers adds contrast, breaks things up visually, and keeps the kitchen from feeling too flat or one-note.

For this kitchen, we didn’t completely reinvent the footprint. We pushed the kitchen further into the dining area, made the island longer and deeper, and traded the pantry for a built-in coffee bar instead.
