Hello LMRC friends and family,
I'm sad to say that we lost another good one recently. A dear family friend and creative force and collaborator, John Hadley died this past week. John was a kindred spirit and full of quick humor and life and love. As a child, my brother and I looked forward to summers when John and his family - Judi, Jason, Jonas and Josh and a little later, Jamaica - would come to town. John was an artist and art professor in Norman, Oklahoma and spent summers in Nashville songwriting. He introduced us to musicians and writers; he wrote a play (called Boogers and Hangnails, if I recall correctly) that my dad put onto stage in an experimental theater space (our blind rooster played a part); he wrote the song "Hard Work" around which Dad produced another short performance at the farm. John brought so much imagination and laughter and so many friends -- and our wonderful neighbor Jennifer -- into the valley and our lives. We will miss having John in the world. His memory is a blessing and his creative spirit lives on full blast in his family and friends.

Hello wild and wonderful folks! I would love your help and creativity in paying tribute to the man that opened my eyes to a world of art and community. I’m not a joiner by nature more a scribble on a napkin in the corner of the bar type of guy so seeing the loving and wildly creative world at a Burning Banjo event was a delightful trip to another planet! Home to fireworks hats, exploding laughter and exploding random objects.

Big thanks to my cousin Linda and the equally amazing Amanda and Rosanna for the invite to join the fun of Burning Banjos, rocket launch to space, pumpkin carvings, and other great events out at Don and Sheryl’s place and the opportunity to meet the charming and delightfully demented Little Marrowbone crew!

Looooooong story longer, many moons ago Amanda showed me footage of her trip with Don to a bit of madness in the desert called Burning Man. Now at long last I’m going! And I would like to honor Don while there. If anyone has a remembrance, poem, phrase, drawing, that they can do on a small strip of fabric I would like to pin them all to a hat (you know, like a fireworks hat, but smaller and not quite as flammable) I will wear at Burning Man and if allowed leave it in the temple. If interested please email me and I’ll get you my address, or we could meet for a drink and I could get your contribution to my wonderful tribute hat! Thanks for your time and consideration.

P.S. (from LMRC) Sheryl would also love to host an opportunity for local LMRC folks to come together to make adornments for your hat out at The Ol’ Evans Place (DO STUFF style). Let us know if this sounds good to you and we’ll set a date before you leave for the playa!

"Who's disturbing my sleep?"
- Don Evans 2-2001

Andee and Stacey enjoyed looking through old photographs like this one at the farm with Sheryl yesterday afternoon. More to come soon!

Hope you all are having a restful and undisturbed Labor Day!

Hello LMRC folks. August 21st (2017) is the solar eclipse and Nashville is on the path to see it in its full glory.
Mom/we invite anyone who wants to come to the farm for proper viewing to do so and stay as long as you want.
There is plenty of floor space in the big house, barn, cabin and even a little bit of space left in the little house on the hill (although I call dibs on the beds for my tiny crew coming from the north, unless anyone outranks me in need for a bed and air conditioning.)
I'll be coming into town from Pittsburgh for a few days and rumor has it that Mike Moser might show up with intent to play keyboards during the event.
Come on out if you can. Eclipse starts at 11:58 am and ends at 2:54, with totality at 1:28 pm for 1 minute 59 seconds.
Bring solar eclipse viewing glasses!

In next week's Scene, we'll pay tribute to one of Nashville's artistic heroes and catalysts, Don Evans, who died Monday at age 74 after a struggle with cancer. As a longtime Vanderbilt professor and art-scene instigator, Evans championed active participation over inert reception, spontaneous creatio...
