TheGrimmSpot Transforming rescued furniture and home decor to create unique, affordable and practical home furnishings.

The Grimm’Spot

The Grimm’Spot was started in July of 2018 in our home in Columbus, OH. Driving past a county landfill everyday was a constant reminder of the the difficulties municipalities face in managing a community’s waste stream. This and driving through our upper middle class neighborhood and observing what was tossed in the trash every week formed the nexus for what became Grimm’Spot. We s

tarted picking up some of the furniture and home decor items that people had discarded. Many times these items just needed a minor repair or good cleaning. Other items were structurally in tact but needed a new finish. In addition we also acquired inventory from estate sales, focusing on the items that received little or no interest and were ultimately headed for the landfill and liquidation auctions for items suffering the same fate. Now the the question was what to do with these still usable items. We saw a need with in many communities for low cost quality furnishing and home decor. The mission of Grimm’Spot evolved to meeting this need by rescuing furniture and home decor destined for the landfill and transforming these items into attractive, unique, functional and affordable household items. Grimm’Spot soon outgrew the confines of our Columbus home and consistent with our long term plans to return the Kentuckiana area, we were able to purchase a building in downtown Jeffersonville IN, right across the river from Louisville, KY that would soon become the base operations for Grimm’Spot.

Still trying to find a arrangement that works. Moved the photo area to the front of the shop. Lots of natural light but have to deal with more shadows. Have a reflector on order to see if we can get even light on both sides of the item.

One small building improvement moving along. Dry wall work is finally done on what is left after we had the wall removed. No longer dealing with drywall dust everywhere.

Work was done by TGAP Property Services in Clarksville IN. We are pleased with the process and the result.

Now we need to find some time to get some paint on it.

Looks like we need some covers for those outlets also.

Working on removing the green paint from a small drop leaf table. Solid wood construction and great condition. Should come out nice with a new color.

Also got 4 new colors of chalk paint yesterday to try. Most are on the lighter side, Miniature Rose has a red hue, Pale Sepia leans more toward tan and Tin White is pretty much white. Did get a darker grey called Fresh Earth.
