On a chance..
I am a woodworker. It took me years to really identify as that. For no other reason than, it was something I always did, but never thought it would become what I wanted forever.
I could not find good affordable lumber. Sure there is the box stores. Sure there is already a big lumber distributor in the city. But who wants to pay those prices, and you cant really pick through the piles.
I was looking for some slabs for a project and happened upon Butler Adams Hardwoods out in Cottage Grove, TN. I drove the 1.5 hours out there. WOW!! What a remarkable place. It was difficult to describe, and I did not even realize what it was until I left. But when I left, I thought about how I had found my new wood place, all those miles from home.
Fast forward two months. I needed two 12 foot slabs of Black Walnut. Call, “do you have it?” The mill manager confirmed they did, but informed me the owner was selling the lumber mill as he was digging deeper into a more passionate venture. My first thought was.. “WHERE AM I GOING TO GET MY LUMBER NOW!?”
