Back to the daily grind of Marine Corps plaques. Here is a plaque that takes with it a lot of mixed feelings for me. This plaque is for a great Marine and friend, an individual who I know is going on to bigger and better things, but I also wish would stick around. If you couldn’t tell, this Marine loved chess and gaming. As such this plaque features a multi species hardwood build consisting of 2 African redwood rooks that are framing a teak chessboard backer, a wooden imitation Nintendo switch made from yellow heart, and finally a piece of curly maple that features custom designed engraving of a Smash Bros battle (with characters representing the Marine and past gaming friends ) . The wooden imitation Nintendo switch holds the Marines write up where the screen would be and is double-sided to hold his gag write up as well. The switch is held on using a number of magnets as well as a small ledge for it to rest on.

As we shift away from Marine Corps plaques temporarily, I am very proud to present this Dungeons & Dragons Dungeon Master screen. This DM screen features a four panel construction with a continuous slot running through the top for various initiative tracking systems as well as custom engraving on each panel. As the panels progress from left to right, they tell a story of an adventuring party who make their way through a dungeon and fight and defeat a dragon to claim its treasure! I had an absolute blast building this definitely change of pace, even though it’s a relatively simple project.

What do you get when you cross a Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt who loves his Valentina hot sauce with a bunch of his peers who have a good imagination? You get a 4 foot tall, hot sauce bottle shaped plaque with a customized label. This plaque was a blast to make. I was given a bit of a rough sketch to go off of, and just ran with it from there. From finding a near perfect font to match the inspiration, to making custom stickers and COLOR MATCHING HOTSAUCE at the homestore paint section this plaque was really a change of pace. I even had some of the printable sticker paper left over so I decided to throw the custom design label on a real bottle of the hot sauce so we had a mini edible version of his plaque!

The concept for this plaque has a significant origin in mischievous behavior. The Marine this plaque is for loved to take the small backing off of People’s rank, so his peers deemed it appropriate that all of those backing should follow him as he left the unit. This plaque is of course for a diehard Packers fan, but has nearly 300 rank backings on it to symbolize all of the backings this guy took while he was a part of his unit! 🤣 I had a blast making this one

Back to the usual grind of Marine Corps plaques! We have another bow rack! This bow rack is made entirely out of of Tennessee black walnut with a small piece of bubinga for the write up plate. I was all out of locally sourced antlers so I opted for a more sleek and simple stainless steel rod to act as the bow supports. I still opted to cap the heavy duty connective hardware with shell casings though for those bang bang hunter vibes

As we take a break from traditional Marine Corps plaques, we can shift over to something a little more utilitarian in nature. I’m thrilled to present this beautiful Equestrian Tack Trunk! This tack trunk features all black hardware which includes piano-hinged lid, spring close handles, and key locked hasp. It also features an interior sliding tray and a REMOVABLE wrap holder with custom engravings (for those of you that aren’t in the horse world that removable feature is pretty unique and bad ass). Something that doesn’t often get highlighted because it isn’t seen are the support/runners on the bottom of the trunk; these runners are hidden by the train, but act as supports to keep the bottom of the box up off of the ground, which prevents the bottom of the box from rotting and deteriorating over the years, most runners are permanently attached, but with a little bit of forethought I made mine replaceable to ensure longevity. Finally on the lid there is a customer provided custom metal sign/decoration of a number of horses running that is meant to symbolize the members of her family. This sign/decoration has been inset into the lid and encased in UV resistant epoxy resin for clear viewing, but ultimate protection!

This next plaque weighs heavy on my heart. It is for an amazing man who I have had the privilege of calling my friend. The shield shaped plaque that this outstanding Man and Marine was presented with during his going away/promotion ceremony features 4 distinct “fields” or sections, each of which display a different aspect of his time with his unit. This shield shaped plaque also pairs perfectly with a large double bladed battle axe that I made for him as well to commemorate the multiple years he has been a steadfast member of my Dnd group (I know, nerd alert!) but in all reality, this is an individual who will be sorely missed from my every day life.

For this going away gift, we have a bow rack! This boat rack is made with locally sourced, hard maple, as well as locally sourced antlers that act as the actual holders of the bow placed on it. Talk about shopping locally! Just to spice things up on the sides there are shell casings capping the heavy duty connecting hardware! This going away gift was made for an outstanding OIC who was a real man’s man, he was an avid, hunter, fisherman, mechanic, and outdoorsman and he will be missed! Semper Fi
