Been silent for a long while, it’s been a long summer and beginning of the school year. Took a trip down to Bentonville, AR for the race with the family and we had a blast! Got to see some amazing scenery, we got to meet Sarah Sturm (who by the way, was the nicest person!, and my boys loved the stickers) and watch everyone at the start of the race! Definitely plan on coming back next year!

We’ve got a new house we’re working on, and I’ve got photos to share later. It’s in the middle of a huge remodel and I’ve got a houseful of cabinets to build. Cheers to everyone in the Pro Tour, you made it to the end of the season!

I haven’t posted on here in ages, but it’s been a needed break. Grad school took over my time and production of my projects went down to zero. I started cycling again which was much needed for my physical health (amazing what endorphins can do) and Laura and I have had big things in the works. This summer I’m closing shop to pack everything and we’re moving back to Missouri. It’s going to be very busy! We’ll be closer to family, I can build furniture with my father, and I’ll be starting a new remodel with Laura. We’ll have a new home and a new (huge) shop. I’ll keep you updated if I have time!

Taking a pause from the jewelry cabinet for a quick build. Sometimes the Kreg jig is the joinery method of choice. I hopefully will get paint on this tomorrow.

I’ve been working on this project off and on for 11 months, but today was really the first time it started to look like what I had inside my head. Top three drawers are perfectly fit and what a difference it makes in the cabinet’s appearance. Hopefully not too much more work! (Yeah, right!)

Looks like and I had the same idea about how to celebrate the end of the year. Six sets of drawer parts cleaned up and fitted. Been quiet for a while on social media, but I’ve been getting some work done. Happy New Year everyone!

I promise I haven’t vanished. Took a break because a of a pileup of homework, then the holidays, then another pile of homework. In any case, here’s a pile of rough milled drawer parts. Maybe tomorrow I will have time to thickness.

Glue-ups for today are finished. This was my first time pre-finishing and I was very pleased with the results. I did have one large snafu I noticed while taking clamps off and it appeared that I didn’t put glue in one of the mortises! I was lucky to have some clamps that act as spreaders and, after almost sweating blood over how far I was bending the whole case, I was able to expose the tenon and get some glue on it. Not super fun, but I feel lucky (and maybe a little clever) to have been able to fix it. Hanging up my hat for a few days, a quick family trip north and a mountain of homework will take the weekend.

Glued up the sides this morning. I was done with the fifth coat of finish yesterday. Pro Tip: wax the edges of your panels and they slip right into place. I should have the carcass completely assembled today. This one has been fun!

It’s been a little bit, life is busy these days. But, given a blessing, I got a large work day in today. All the parts for the main carcass are complete, on to sanding and pre-finishing. This has been a huge project and I’m looking forward to having this off the bench.

I don’t get much time in the shop anymore, being a full time dad and grad student, but tonight one of my sons provided. He fell backward off the couch and proved how hard-headed his is by breaking this piece off a table my father built me. A lot of clamps later, hopefully it will come out all better.
