Did you know? Did you know, wood is one of the most scarce resources in the universe?

Why it’s rare in the universe

Life and trees are rare in the cosmos (so far).
Planets with the right conditions for long-lived trees (water, nutrients, stable climate) are not everywhere.
Most planets are too hot, too cold, or have harsh atmospheres for trees as we know them.

Special chemistry is needed.
Wood relies on plants' ability to photosynthesize and then convert that energy into sturdy, long-lasting tissue.
This specific combination of biology and chemistry doesn’t happen everywhere.

Time and stability matter.
Trees take many years to grow. In many places, planetary conditions change before a forest can mature.
Even if life exists elsewhere, it might be in single-celled forms or photosynthetic organisms that don’t build woody structures.

Different materials everywhere.
Other worlds might have rocks, metals, ices, or different kinds of vegetation. They might not produce or preserve wood like Earth does.
If a planet never had forests, there’s no wood at all.

Why Earth is special (and wood is common here)

Earth has had a long, stable climate with plenty of water and nutrients.
Plants evolved to make wood as a durable, supportive tissue.
Forests cover large areas and last for thousands to millions of years, giving us material we call wood.
