Chairs, chairs, all kinds of chairs! This last month has been a showcase of different materials and styles. If variety is the spice of life, November has been a hot one!

Stately Stripes

These pieces aren't going to the same client, but they do make a lovely imaginary sitting room set! The classic antique daybed is recovered in a similarly classic white and blue striped pattern reminiscent of a cotton ticking pattern. The small wing chair is covered in a soft chenille blue and white stripe; the blue darkens or lightens depending on the light and the angle at which it is viewed.

Vintage La-Z-Boy before and after:

This style of recliner is a classic and they really don't make them this small and cozy anymore. Don't let the small size deceive you though -- these are quite labor-intensive! There are some styles of sofa that I could recover in fewer hours than it took to recover this recliner. Its worthwhile though; in addition to being the perfect size for my client, this is also a family heirloom. New padding also made it more comfortable and ready to keep reclining for another 40 years.

And finally, this luxurious club chair is covered in a fabric pattern called Justice River from Norbar Fabrics. The more time I spent working with it, the more cool and calm I felt :)

I sent this lovely camelback sofa and loveseat set out last week.

Occasionally a client is looking for a specific style of pattern that the bigger and more conventional fabric mills just don't seem to be printing. In this case, my clients found a custom printed pattern on Spoonflower that was perfect for these pieces. This is the second time I've worked with a fabric printed by Spoonflower and have been generally happy with the fabric quality. In this printing, the pattern got slightly skewed in the process, so working to combat that added an additional layer of difficulty to placing and pattern matching.

My goodness - I've been working so hard, I forgot to post!
I've had some venerable pieces pass through the shop in the last month. Though the reupholstery process is generally the same, each piece of furniture is its own individual. Even the standardization of the original manufacture has its quirks, and each owner and reupholsterer (if it should be so lucky) leaves their particular flair behind. Sometimes that flair is SO MANY unnecessary staples to dig out of the frame, and sometimes it is masterfully hand-tied springs that are still holding strong even as the burlap that covers them has worn through. Its always an honor to leave the mark of my own hands behind. I strive to wow not only my client, but also the upholsterer who comes after me.
