This morning I lost my boy. Hamletâs health took a nasty turn this past weekend and I knew it was his time. Weâve had him for 10 years, longer than both our daughters have been alive. When we rescued him, he was severely neglected. He was living in a dark apartment with no backyard, never walked, and without a leash. He was eating cat food and malnourished. He was infested with fleas from head to toe and was completely lifeless. Through a series of half a dozen baths, I hand picked every damn flea off his body, walked him, fed him and gave him the life he deserved. After a couple of weeks, he was a completely new dog filled with joy and excitement and played with our other dog, Lacey. He had the best personality. He would howl with us on command and slept with me in the bed every night, literally followed me everywhere. We took him on dozens of camping trips and gave him a huge backyard to play in everyday. His breath stank, but God knows I loved my âbig guyâ. Hammy, thank you for being such a safe place for me to give my whole self to. I love you, Iâll miss you.
