There has recently been a renaissance in the artisan/consumer relationship. Both seem to want to have a connection throughout the life of the creative process. People seem to want to have more ownership in the items they surround themselves with in their homes and sometimes even know where the materials initially come from. Makers also want to know where their passionately built designs end up and

know that they are being well loved and practically used. In 2011, Stephen Scharbrough created theIRON/slab to provide these unique and personalized live edge and hardwood furniture pieces in a way that included the client in each step of that process. The goal has been to build and finish pieces to higher standards than most modern day retailers and to aim for artistic and practical one of a kind pieces that can be passed down through family generations.

Took a thirty minute vacation from Indiana during the cold and rainy storms yesterday in between tuning appointments. Best $5 I’ve spent in a while at the ! Can’t recommend this beautiful Indy gem enough!

This custom double waterfall desk made its way to its home in Lake Mary, FL. My client and long time friend trusted me with creating a one of a kind piece that would complement the design aesthetic of his already striking office space, including grand taxidermy, grain leathers, hardwoods, and lots of natural light. It was made from one continuous 12’ walnut slab so the grain lines flow the entire length of the surface! We also came up with a beautiful patchwork inlay to add form to function. Check it out!
