Been working on this crotch section of a walnut tree for a couple days. It was a twisted mess due to the grains, but O.M.G look at those grains! Going to be a nice accent piece of a cutting board. It’s even hot a little bit of sapwood peaking through for that contrast of cream and chocolate.

Matching set of walnut cutting boards made by yours truly. Love the way they turned out. Nice and simple but elegant.

So I got this slab of walnut from a guy at work with the intent of making a chopping block out of it. It was searching for love in all the wrong places but I wanted to open it up to see what it was hiding, so I cut it in half and seen the grains and knew I had to help it. Quartered everything out and started cutting off the unusables (for a chopping block) and started piecing it back together. This is called “sap wood” walnut, I had some “heart” walnut which is the deep color grains and added it to the sapwood to help build this board back up. I’m loving it so far and couldn’t help but to post where it’s at so far in the process. The guy at work doesn’t have Facebook so I hope I’m safe from him seeing it. Enjoy 😊

Have I said lately how much I love walnut?! Had to take better pictures of this beauty

Love seeing all the hard work pay off, It’s my zen and proves hard work and attention to detail Is a far superior method. Customer loved it and that alone makes you feel like you’re walking on clouds. I created something from a couple planks of wood and turned it in to something that could very well be passed down and to someone who appreciates the craftsmanship that went in to it. Thanks for looking 😁

Locked and loaded with one ready for glue.. again with the needing more clamps 😂 oh well, making due and keeping deadlines. White oak with a stripe of bloodwood, end grain walnut chopper, and the last is white oak white oak and white oak ready for glue. These will set for 24hrs in the clamps, I’ll unclamp the first oak board, then clamp the second and head to the drum sander for finishing touches. Next post should be finish product 😁😁
