Thank goodness my client loves the new and fresh look!
I guess my last reel about these built-ins was unintentional ragebait… 😬
I actually love both looks. I can totally understand the confrontation. However sometimes clients want a fresh look and that’s what I do best! My clients opinions matter most.

I don’t necessarily think of myself as an artist, but I guess you have to be a little bit artistic and a lot of bit of detail oriented to be a refinisher. I’m so happy that refinishing is where I landed. I love what I create.
and no, this isn’t the final look. Remember what I said about being detailed oriented? This is what it takes to have a flawless finish. 🤪
Next steps, sanding everything down AGAIN, cleaning, caulking, priming a second time and then sanding some more….. THEN…. final coats of beautification! 🥳

I’ve been prepping this built-in for the last two days. It is prime time! I love that I can use my barrier system to create a clean and dust free environment. My next investment is an air scrubber. If anyone has a recommendation for one, let me know! I am always in the market for creating the best possible environment for me and my clients.

Throwback Thursday! This is where “Liz Modern” started in 2017. A little bit of Pinterest and YouTube  university!
I have always been a creative. Took every studio class my college offered, worked on whole house interior painting projects and was even an art teacher. Getting into refinishing felt like a good fit. I jumped all in. These nightstands were some of the first LM collection. I found them on the side of the road. There are so many things I would do differently... Like how I used gel stain and never wiped it back. I think I put poly over top of it too. 😬🫣 Those poor nightstands. I wonder where they are now. I still love the two tone look, but I would have restored them to their original beauty if I had to redo them again. It’s pretty laughable to look back at them now. I guess we all have to start somewhere.

TBH Tue! *Client custom*

If I am being completely honest, sometimes it is hard to paint pieces or refinish them in styles and colors that is not my personal style. Nonetheless, the majority of the pieces I work on these days are client commissioned pieces. It’s going in my client’s home. As a refinisher and someone who helps people with design, I play things on the safe side. I’m more of a, “let’s do a neutral color and add in pops of color through textiles, etc…” I am always thrilled to work with color and find it incredibly fascinating that people like bold colors. The crazy thing is, when I was younger I loved bold colors. My room was painted Kawasaki green and Yamaha blue. 😳 Funny how things change and maybe it’s society and trends that really shape us. Maybe we aren’t being true to ourselves but instead being influenced.

Biggest kitchen of my career!

One of those projects where I have to take a step back to process it all. I get so up close and focused on what I’m doing that before I know it, it’s all done. I can’t even believe it! Definitely not the most detailed kitchen I’ve ever worked on, but the biggest door count by far. 74 doors & 26 drawers! I even refinished the stools.
A project I’ll never forget.

The colors aren’t coming through is a big way with pictures but I promise you, it’s different. Originally it was an off-white and the new color choices are:

Balanced Beige - on surrounds
Teakwood - on island

What is even real these days…? I know my back pain is real! 💥🫠
AI is such a hot topic and most people don’t know it’s more than just asking ChatGPT to create something. It’s in everything that we do on here. The ship is sailed and technology keeps evolving. Even if it comes to the day, where all content is such fakery AI, I will still smile at my work and know the legitimacy. I love to look at my “before and afters”. It blows my mind that I’ve worked on so many amazing kitchen projects.
