My daughter is Jennifer Caughey and she is running for Appellate Judge in the First Court of Appeals Place 2. she is amazingly hard-working and dedicated to her field and I really wish each and everyone of you who is in her jurisdiction, which is the nine counties around Harris County Texas should vote for her. Here are her words on why you should vote for her:
I’m Jennifer Caughey, and I’m the Republican candidate running to return to the First Court of Appeals, Place 2. This Court is the final decision maker on 90% of civil and criminal issues for the Houston area (with 9 surrounding counties). It matters that we have experienced, rule-of-law judges on this Court.
I have the experience and principles to serve you well. After being appointed to the Court, I issued 125 rule-of-law opinions, worked on 450 appeals, and cleared my docket. I earned broad support for that work, and my record shows I will always be true to the law and efficient. Despite that, I was swept out with all my colleagues in 2018’s wave.
I’ve devoted my career to appeals and public service. I chair the Appellate Department of Texas’s largest law firm, Jackson Walker. I handle appeals in this Court daily. I’m also on the Texas Judicial Council and the Board of Disciplinary Appeals. My Texas appellate practice has been widely recognized and praised, including by Chambers, Best Lawyers, Super Lawyers, and US News.
My race is particularly critical. Because of my experience and track record, I have strong support, including substantially more than twice the number of lawyers voting in the bar (lawyer) poll that they want to see me in this seat. I have broad endorsements, ranging from the Houston Police Officers’ Union, Texans for Lawsuit Reform, the Houston Realty Business Coalition, the Mexican American Bar Association, and the Coalition for Good Government, along with the support of a wide array of law firms. I received the most votes in the primary of any of the 20+ appellate judicial candidates. My opponent, on the other hand, admits in her filing forms that she’s never handled a Texas appeal or made an appellate argument. Texas needs experienced, principled, rule-of-law judges deciding their civil and criminal appeals.
