Here at Nexgen Renovar we have been in construction for over 40 years and we want to educate some of you NEW home buyers and those of you remodeling your home about PEX plumbing. It's DANGEROUS and should not be used in your home, and don't buy a home with it already installed in it. PEX was originally was not designed for drinking water purposes but to be used for radiant heat floors or sprinkler system type purposes. But some brainiac trying to save money in home building costs started using it in new homes and now all the "make a buck no matter what" contractors are using it in remodeling projects. The product was put on the market without adequate testing and we are now getting to the 12 to 15 year mark and they are discovering that PEX leaks BPA and other Carcinogens and is subseptible to bacteria growth. Plus rodents can eat right through it, and it shouldn't be exposed to light...not even light bulbs. So don't waste your time with PEX or take a risk with your health, these companies don't care if you get cancer because they have lawyers to wear you down if you try to sue them for negligence. And by the way this was attempted in the early 80s with a Black Rolled plastic PVC pipe. It was all the craze, and cheaper than copper and easier to use than rigid white PVC pipe. But it was pulled off the market quick because people were getting cancer and other having other health issues within 3 to 5 years of the pipes installation. And the bad thing was it was being used by city or county municipal engineers to supply water to homes. So even if you had a home with copper or galvanized pipe they changed your water supply lines from the water main to your water meter box and leached harmful chemicals into your homes. Black Rolled and White PVC pipe are one of the main contributors to the rise in cancer rates this country has seen since the 1970s, when it was implemented into new home construction. So do yourself a favor, one read this article, and two buy a home that has copper pipe, and make sure you use copper pipe if you're remodeling. Which by the way, if you have a contractor pushing PEX pipe on you it's probably because they are not skilled at plumbing. Any monkey can cut plastic pipe with big scissors, insert the two ends onto a connector and clamp them down with pliers...it takes NO skill, or ACTUAL plumbing abilities. Whereas copper you have to know how to cut and solder copper, and straight rigid pipe is harder to get into tight spaces....but that's what we have done for over 100 years as craftsmen. So don't go with a cheaper more dangerous product because your contractor or in some cases unethical plumbers recommends PEX. And to be honest I would be weary of ANY plumber recommending regular PVC or CPVC as an option when doing repair work and especially new construction. Copper is used in 80% of new homes being built for a reason. And aside from the durability of copper its actually healthier to drink water from copper pipe as it has natural bacteria killing properties and it gives of essential minerals that are good for you. And that has been known as far back as ancient Rome, where they stored water in copper pots to receive the health benefits. So keep these things in mind and DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH on Copper vs PEX plumbing you may be shocked at what you find.
