“I live five hours from Hendersonville and am responsible for selling my Alzheimer’s afflicted sister-in-laws home there. It became apparent after the first few showings that an unfinished kitchen was the primary objection of potential buyers. I know nothing about kitchen remodeling but was lucky enough to have a local innkeeper direct me to Kitchens of the South. Although the budget was not huge, designer Bettina Seifts took on the project as if it was a major renovation. She provided a cost estimate and detailed rendering in two days that blew me away with its style and simplicity. Bettina also aided in appliance selection and coordinated with the realtor to make sure the house was open whenever workers needed access. When a small problem arose with a particular aspect during installation, Bettina came up with an elegant solution and oversaw the correction. The end result is an on time, on budget, beautifully renovated kitchen that we are proud to show potential buyers. We expect an offer any day. Thank you, Bettina, for your over-and-above efforts on my behalf!”

These kind words mean so much! We’re so glad that Bettina was able to bring your vision to life and make the renovation process smooth and successful 🙌

Designed to stand the test of time.

Not just with its durability, but also with its beauty ✨ The space is a testament to the importance of careful color selection, thoughtful lighting design and understanding of how design elements & materials play off of each other.

Kitchens of the South designer Stephanie Walden reflects warmly on this kitchen, declaring it a dream project. “We worked closely together to coordinate colors and style concepts.”

“This is one of my all time favorite projects, not just because of its beauty, but because of the collaboration and intention that went into curating the design details and flow.”

Luxe, understated materials and finishes lend striking sophistication!

✨ The dramatic island base is cherry wood treated with a slate stain and topped with a cherry glaze, while the sturdy Fieldstone cabinets are constructed with maple. Stephanie Walden, kitchen designer, says, “we ultimately painted the cabinets a light mushroom color but I ended up bringing lots of samples to the kitchen because you can’t get a true idea of color in a showroom. We needed to see how the color changed with the light during the day and evening.”

The rich color offers depth without being too dark for cozy winter evenings.

✨ Contrast was introduced with the island top – using the dramatic “Cambria Brittanica” gold quartz slab as a focal point. For continuity, it was also used it in the bar area.

✨ Directly above the island is the rich wood tray ceiling, from which two minimalistic angular globe pendants float with seeming weightlessness. “I tend to do lots of under-cabinet lighting as well,” says Walden, who offers an insider’s tip: “I always recommend that bright-white lightbulbs be used in kitchens. Daylight bulbs are blue [toned] and soft white is yellow — bright white is more natural and provides the truest ability to see a kitchen space.”

✨ Nickel finishes were chosen for cabinet pulls and faucet hardware. “It has more of that attention-grabbing sparkle,” says Walden, “whereas chrome is too gray and flat — there’s no warmth or luxury to it.”

A personalized and welcoming space ✨

The process of designing this kitchen coalesced as naturally as its light/dark look, according to kitchen designer Stephanie Walden.

It’s crucial to learn how homeowners want to use their kitchen — not just how they want it to look.

From key features requested by the homeowners such as wanting a “cook’s kitchen” to accommodate baking with their granddaughter & plenty of room from to meal prep, Walden also considered small but very important functional details like the owner’s heights and whether they’re right or left-handed.

“These facts inform how we’ll design the cabinets, decide on countertop height, and our approach to storage in the kitchen.” In this particular case, Walden prioritized installing a utensil pullout next to the range for ease and clutter reduction. “We also added 18-inch-wide pantries to the left and the right of the fridge that are 24 inches deep, so they’re quite roomy,” she says.

Also, since this was a kitchen being made for a large family who enjoy entertaining, she made sure to include lots of seating both inside the kitchen and right outside it, in a nearby bar area.
