We will be hosting Peanut Maturity Clinics at Davis Farm & Garden on Tuesdays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. until noon, beginning September 8th. Please bring peanut vines so we can access any issues with peg strength or disease. If you have any questions, call Jennifer at (912) 253-5356.

It is time to prepare for Georgia National Fair 4-H Contests. This year your 4-H'er can participate in 4-H Recycling, 4-H Decorated Agricultural Product Exhibit, or 4-H Terrarium/Dish Garden Exhibit. If you are interested in having a project in the Georgia National Fair, please come by the 4-H office to fill out an entry form and receive the project guidelines. Entry forms are due by September 11th, and the Fair Entry Exhibit is due to the 4-H office by Sept. 18th. If you have any questions, call the 4-H Office at (912) 375-6648.

The pasture mealybug (Heliococcus summervillei; PMB) has been officially reported in Decatur County in SW Georgia.

Here are answers to some of the most common questions you may expect over the next few weeks:

Q: What crops could be impacted?
A: All warm season grasses could potentially be impacted. This may potentially include all pasture, hay, cover crops, turfgrasses, corn, sugar cane, and other small grains.

Q: Can I spray something to keep the PMB out?
A: Unfortunately, no. There are no reliable pesticides to prevent or control the PMB. Currently, Sefina is labeled for suppression but resulted are mixed. Biosecurity is the best option we have right now.

Q: Where can I report?
A: Agents can report directly to Dr. Baxter. Producers can fill out this survey so we can put them in contact with their local Extension Agent. https://uga.questionpro.com/PMBupdates

Q: Should I be worried?
A: No, but we should be scouting and taking proactive measures to keep our farm safe. Biosecurity is the best option we have right now to slow the spread of the PMB.

You're Invited to Coffee County Extension Office's Preharvest Set Up and Troubleshooting Field Issues Meeting, Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at 8:00 AM at Lasseter Tractor in Douglas.

The meeting will include a general walkthrough of an inverter and combine, with the main focus on troubleshooting and correcting issues in the field. Information will be geared toward farmers and farm employees operating or maintaining equipment.

Speakers will be Scott Monfort (UGA) – Quick Update / How to Finish Crop Strong and Wes Porter (UGA) & Danny Bennett (KMC) – Equipment set-up, troubleshooting problems, and how to fix them in the field.
