Have you ever had issues with your new phone or computer? Are you confused about mobile photography or word processing? Or do you know a parent, teacher, or community member who is? TechTalk is a student service group from the Governor's School for Science and Mathematics in Hartsville, South Carolina. We provide free, interactive assistance with everyday technology. Our students are well-versed i

n most all devices, from iPhones to Windows computers and tablets to printers. GSSM senior Anya Bali founded TechTalk in 2014. She, along with ten other dedicated GSSM volunteers, works to familiarize the Hartsville community not only with modern technology, but also with the Governor's School and its students. We aim to share our knowledge of new devices and software through one-on-one workshops and interactive assistance. If you have questions or know someone who does, let us know! You can follow us on Twitter or email us at [email protected]. Come to one of our free workshops to learn more about your devices and the GSSM community!

With iOS 10, a lot of new features came out. One of those is called Raise to Wake, which turns on your phone screen when you pick up your phone. This can be super handy if you're just checking notifications.

However, it can also be a pain if you're moving around, so you can turn it off in Settings. Go to Display & Brightness and then tap the slider next to Raise to Wake.

To learn more about these new features, drop by our workshop this Tuesday! We'll be teaching people how to use iOS 10 and it's amazing new features.

Tech Tip: Making sure your audience is who you want it to be

When you're on Facebook, anything you post can be seen by the public. If you have something you only want to share with your close friends, you can set an "audience" for your post. Down at the bottom of the area where you compose a post, there is a button that will say "public" or "friends" or "only me". From there, you can control who sees your posts!

We've heard reports recently that Facebook users have been receiving private messages asking for personal information. If you receive any of these, report the message or delete it. In general, you should NEVER give out your personal information over the internet, even if you know the person.

Stay safe out there!
