Amber kicked this dresser to the curb, and I snagged it. It was a little beat, but I liked all the drawers and decided it had some life left in it.
The dresser was originally painted to cover the fact that they used various woods to construct it, so I decided to sand it down to see exactly what was there. The resulting stained wood has many natural variations in color and sone imperfections from use but I, personally, think it adds to the piece.
The bottom front had fallen off, so I cut the sides down and made a new base with legs and this helped strengthen the whole cabinet. I reattached the back, replaced two drawer bottoms and repaired two. I glued and reinforced all the larger drawers. I painted the cabinet black and stained the top, base, and drawer fronts. I lined the drawers and replaced the wooden k***s with card catalog drawer pulls.
Now, Amber has three handsome sons, and obviously all the testosterone in her house is still clinging to it and has given this dresser a decidedly masculine vibe. 💙

New toy in the shop! I still have tons to learn about her, but here are some of the first attempts. Not sure there's much she can't do, I just gotta figure out HOW to do it! Got anything you want to try?

Dee has wonderful ideas and a fear of power tools. (She's working on that.) I was blessed to be invited into her latest project. She has a dry sink, in the dining end of her kitchen, that she received as a gift years ago. When she and her husband decided to put a sliding glass door in that part of the house, the dry sink no longer had a ‘home’. Because it had sentimental value and she did not want to part with it, she came up with a plan, and what a plan it was! 🙃 She decided to turn it upside down and hang it in a little spot further down the wall where they would be removing a window. My work was to strip and refinish the cabinet in a lighter finish, cut off the legs and add a board across the bottom, which would soon be the top, move the drawer slide to flip the drawer and add an extra shelf and supports to hang the cabinet on the wall. What a great accent piece!!🤩
We would love to hear your thoughts!

My daughter, Kate has awesome ideas and likes to push the limits of my abilities. She wanted to get her sister a porch goose for her birthday but wanted a Canadian goose, not your typical North American buff goose. (Sibling teasing) So she asks me, “Can you make a goose?” 😳
Honestly, carving a duck out of wood is, opps was, on my bucket list. (I know, Ive already been told thats weird) I carved, Kate painted. So here he is, temporarily gendered and named, ‘Bruce the Goose’
Happy birthday Anna B!🎉
Some of Kates other ideas for me are in the photos, too.

This cute little corner cabinet was made out of thin plywood but my customer wanted to give it some new life. Sherwin Williams Sea Salt paint, some bamboo panels and a eucalyptus liner.

Often I am so excited to get working on a piece that I don't get 'before' pictures to show the transformation. This is one of those times. My daughters had passed this old cedar chest back and forth. It was very ornate, and each of them had painted it when they had it. I started stripping it and decided to really strip it of all the ornate appliqués and fancy legs. It did need something across the front of that big blank space so I bought a grille and cut it up to fit in the space. I also got new legs, stained them walnut, and painted the actual cabinet a neutral color.

My sister saw a tray that another sister had displayed on her kitchen table. (made by her talented son!) She asked me to make one for her so, knowing her dining table could handle the size, I made it rather large. I changed the design slightly, tapering the sides and adding ‘handles’ in the ends. I used repurposed, rough cut lumber painted black and lightly sanded for a distressed rustic look. I wonder what she will put in it? I thank God for my sisters and love making things for them. 🩷🩷🩷

Alex from Donahue's Heating and Cooling contacted me about creating a shadow box to display some memorabilia they had collected from the early days of the business. I was thrilled to be invited! We decided on a cabinet with shelves to display their many awards along with the memories. This is the final result!
Made primarily from repurposed wood, a large portion of which came from half of a pew, out of a church, to which the Donahue family had special ties. Thanks to Dave, Alex and everyone at Donahues, now the 3rd generation keeping local families comfortable! 💙🔥❄️

Finally! Someone who loves barn quilts as much as I do! Amy contacted me about a custom made barn quilt. She opted for one on the house and a matching double sided one to hang under her mailbox. Colors were chosen to match/compliment her house colors.

My grandson saw this old toy box in my shop and said, “Gram, can I have this?” Seriously, who could resist that face and request? I asked Mom first, and then refinished it to match his dressers that I had done a couple of years ago. Mario kart racing themed.

Lisa found this box and asked me to refinish it so she could give it as a gift to her new daughter-in-law. It was sanded and refinished in a bit of a darker stain, as per her request. Small wooden k***s were replaced with little pearl ones, and a pretty wildflower lining was added to the drawers and the storage space at the top.
