Amber kicked this dresser to the curb, and I snagged it. It was a little beat, but I liked all the drawers and decided it had some life left in it.
The dresser was originally painted to cover the fact that they used various woods to construct it, so I decided to sand it down to see exactly what was there. The resulting stained wood has many natural variations in color and sone imperfections from use but I, personally, think it adds to the piece.
The bottom front had fallen off, so I cut the sides down and made a new base with legs and this helped strengthen the whole cabinet. I reattached the back, replaced two drawer bottoms and repaired two. I glued and reinforced all the larger drawers. I painted the cabinet black and stained the top, base, and drawer fronts. I lined the drawers and replaced the wooden k***s with card catalog drawer pulls.
Now, Amber has three handsome sons, and obviously all the testosterone in her house is still clinging to it and has given this dresser a decidedly masculine vibe. 💙
