There’s always somebody who asks, “But why would you PAINT that?” And that’s a fair question.

When I bought back this dresser that I refinished years ago, I thought I might strip the top and give it a beautiful stained finish for its second makeover. Then I started stripping. 😳

Those ink markings are deeply embedded in the wood—and suddenly I remembered why this piece was a great candidate for paint in the first place.

Not every old piece is hiding beautiful, stain-grade wood beneath its finish. Sometimes you find stains. Repairs. Different species of wood. Veneer damage. Manufacturing marks. Or 100 years of who-knows-what.

Good refinishing is about working with the piece you actually have—not the piece you hoped was underneath the paint.

So this one is getting painted again. No apologies. 😂

And this time? Cashmere. Clean, classic and completely different from her first House2Home makeover. 🤍

I found this beautiful early 20th century desk (former vanity) and instantly saw the potential. The black paint doesn’t do this piece any favors, but the trim details and shape definitely do!

My plan is to use Farmhouse Paint’s Tanned Leather on the body, with Tea Stain Glazing Gel for depth and a stained wood top. Now all I need is a chair to go with it (and some cooler refinishing weather)!

I can’t wait to bring this one back to life!

This maple table and oak chairs were sitting in two different booths at the antique mall. But the wood tones, the turned details, and the overall feel? They just belonged together.

The chairs are in perfect condition and will stay exactly as they are — warm, rustic, and full of character. The table top has that primitive, nicely worn look… which means she’s either perfectly charming or about to get a little glow-up - a little time will tell!

Different booths. Same potential. Definitely meant to be together. 🤎

One of the hazards of refinishing furniture is occasionally finding a place for it in our home. Usually, I’m pretty good about it. But then there’s this bench…

I really did intend to sell it—but now that I’ve seen a mock up of it in the room using Farmhouse Paint’s Ecru, I do believe it will be staying.

Surely I’m allowed to keep one every now and then…right? ❤️

What an incredible day yesterday! ❤️

The king bedroom set and the green wardrobe both SOLD — making it the biggest sales day I’ve ever had at House2Home.

I’m incredibly grateful for every person who follows along, shares a post, stops by the booth, and chooses to bring one of my pieces home.

Days like this make all the sanding, painting, hauling, styling, and second-guessing worth it. 😂

Thank you for supporting House2Home. Now I’ve got some empty spaces to fill! 😫😆

This Ethan Allen dresser is getting a complete refresh for a customer who chose Blue Slate, a Tea Stain glaze, and a medium brown stained top.

The paint is on and the top has been sanded down and restained. Once the glaze and new hardware are in place, this traditional piece will have a completely refreshed look while still keeping its timeless character.

It’s at the stage where I already love it… and it isn’t even finished yet. 😂

And now comes the fun part: filling those empty spaces with something new. 👀

Thank you so much for shopping small and supporting House2Home!

Remember this one? 💚

When I brought this 1970s wardrobe home, I knew all that carving could either be its greatest asset…or its biggest problem. But, as is, the carving was hard to see. 😂

The goal wasn’t to make it more ornate. It was to quiet it down and let the piece speak for itself.

Dark Ivy from Farmhouse Paint gave all that detail new life without overwhelming it, while a fresh, light interior completely changed what happens when those doors open. And those original shallow drawers? Cleaned, repaired and finished with a botanical liner that gives just a little nod to the era this piece came from.

No heavy glaze.
No gilding.
No extra embellishment.

Turns out, she already had enough personality. 😂

At 78½” tall, this one is unapologetically a statement piece—and after getting her through the doors at the shop flat on her back on two dollies, she has officially arrived at House2Home Covington. 😂
