I have cleaned out some old inventory and am donating them to The Friends of Jackson County Animal Shelter. They will be selling them at their booth this Saturday at Heritage Days in Granville. These are hand made signs, no two are exactly alike, most made from lumber logged in Jackson County. I don't have plans to make any more of these signs, so when they are gone, they are gone. All proceeds will support the animal shelter. Get there early for the best selection and spend generously since it supports a good cause.

I made a sign for some neighbors who share a driveway that forks to each property, a ways in from the road. It was always a little confusing to visitors. Hopefully this puts and end to the confusion.

A few months ago my wife asked me if I could make wooden spoons. I answered I was pretty sure I could but I had never done it. After a dozen or so random spoons, I finally settled on a design that felt good in my hand. Here is my first wooden kitchen utensil set. They are made from cherry wood and are in a poplar vase.

If you have ever looked at wooden bowls, the large ones go for big bucks. Well here are my first 2 attempts at making large bowls. I'm getting the feeling they may be worth more than the small bowls.

It has been to hot to work outside so I took the opportunity to finished up my wood stove surround. I originally installed the stove to manufacturers specifications but the wood wall close to the stove would get quite warm when I had a fire. To keep the wood structure from getting to hot, I removed the paneling and added 2 layers of cement board with an air space in between them. A small gap at both the top and bottom allows a natural convection current of air to cool the whole assembly.

I was honored by being given the "Artist of the Year" award from the Granville Museum / Historic Granville this morning, as part of the 2017 Heritage Day festivities. I feel blessed to be able to have such a fine venue to display my work.

For the last couple months I have been learning how to turn wood on a lathe. I had pretty much used all my suitable wood making bowls. I got a call this week asking if I wanted some cherry logs. I didn't realize how much work there is to cut logs into bowl blanks and properly dry them. Thanks Jonathan Jackson for the wood. I will have bowl stock for a while.
