This glider has been in my client’s family for years, and she wanted to bring it back closer to what it originally looked like while still giving it a fresh, updated feel.

She had refinished it herself at one point, so getting it back to a natural wood finish meant undoing quite a bit first. And this one definitely made me work for it. 😅

I stripped, scraped, sanded, cleaned with acetone, stripped some more, sanded some more, disassembled the base so I could get into all those hard-to-reach areas, and then worked my way around what felt like approximately 900 spindles and curves.

Once I finally got it back down to the wood, I was able to rebuild that warm, medium-brown tone that felt much closer to its original look and would still coordinate beautifully with her home.

This was one of those projects that reminded me why family pieces are worth the extra time. You can always buy another chair…but you can’t replace the history that comes with this one.

And after seeing it finished, I’d say all that stripping, scraping, sanding was worth it. 🤎

Some furniture doesn’t need to shout to make a statement.

This Thomasville buffet started out tired, scratched, and ready for a second chance. Instead of reaching for a standard black or green, I mixed my own custom color using Legacy Paints ● Furniture & Cabinet Paint Midnight Reserve and Night Garden until it landed somewhere in between, a rich, moody charcoal with subtle olive undertones that changes beautifully with the light.

The top was finished in General Finishes Java, adding just enough warmth to complement the restored brass hardware and bring the whole piece together.

It’s always amazing how the right combination of color, wood, and original details can completely transform a piece without taking away its character.

Every once in a while, a piece doesn’t leave the shop.

I had been thinking about changing our dining room table for a while, and when this restoration was finished, I realized… this was the one.

One of the greatest gifts of doing what I do is that every now and then, I get to bring a piece I’ve poured my heart into, into my own home.

There’s something incredibly rewarding about walking by it every day and knowing I gave it a second chance. Every hour of sanding, every repair, every decision along the way… it all becomes part of something our family gets to enjoy.

More than anything, I hope this table becomes the place where we gather, celebrate, laugh, and make memories for years to come.

It brings me so much joy knowing something I put my blood, sweat, and tears into gets to have a new life… right here at home. 🤎

This Bert England “Forward Trend” dining set by Johnson Furniture with all four leaves installed, extends to approximately 114 inches long, making it large enough for holidays, gatherings, and a very full table…almost got away.

When I first spotted it on Facebook Marketplace, I was instantly drawn to it, but it was priced higher than I was willing to pay. I made my offer, stuck to it, and walked away.

A few weeks later… the seller reached back out.

The tabletop was carefully scraped to remove the failing finish before every piece, including all seven chairs, was sanded smooth. I finished the wood with Antique Walnut, enriched the color on the chairs with Walnut Brown Toner, and sealed everything with General Finishes Arm-R-Seal for lasting protection. Finally, every seat was reupholstered with fresh fabric to bring the entire set back to life.

What started as a worn, neglected Marketplace find is now a beautifully restored mid-century dining set that’s ready for decades of family dinners and memories.

I’m still searching for one more matching Forward Trend captain’s chair to make this set complete. If you’ve ever seen one, or know someone who has, please reach out. I’d love to reunite this set.

Sometimes the best Marketplace finds aren’t the ones you buy immediately…
