Wood veneer is thin slices of wood usually glued to flat panels such as doors, cabinets, and walls.

The art of wood veneering dates back to ancient Egyptian times. We have evidence from sarcophagi that wood veneer is around 4,000 years old.

Wood veneer can be beautiful and practical. It's less likely to warp than solid wood, and less wood is wasted when it's made since it's sliced instead of sawn.

The period between 1880 and 1910 in the United States is known as the Golden Era of Millwork. During this time, most buildings and interiors were made of wood. This broad use of wood was mainly due to the manufacture of machinery, which made wood cutting and carving easier and led to finer finished products.

Cross-laminated timber (CLT), which consists of layers of wood glued together with the grain in alternating directions, is as strong as steel and actually more fire-resistant.

In a fire, steel melts and bends, but a thick CLT plank chars on the outside while staying intact on the inside.

The world's tallest mass timber building at 284 feet tall is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
