Made my first breadboard / pullout cutting board! Hard maple board with red oak breadboard ends to match the cabinet it slides into. I created a spring joint on the ends with a block plane, dialed in the fit of the tongue and groove on the router table, and only glued the center 3” of the joints. The breadboard ends keep the board from cupping, the spring joint will prevent the ends from bowing away from the board at the edges, and only gluing the center allows for the normal expansion and contraction of the board without splitting.

This beautiful laundry room table was delivered to it’s new home this weekend! The top is all quarter and rift sawn white oak, finished with Ash Grey, and topped with their grey Universal Maintenance Oil. The stretchers are joined to the purchased legs (don’t have room for a lathe in my shop) with mortise and tenons, and an open cabinet holds up the right side. The top measures 25”x 84”, and it sits 36” high (countertop height.) Big shoutout to for all the paint tips and supplies!

After getting the mortises in the legs cut I moved on to cutting the tenons on the table saw. Really happy with the fit on these, any tighter and the clamps wouldn’t have been able to pull it all together with the glue swelling of the joints.

Needed to cut some mortises into these massive table legs that were purchased, so I made an edge guide for the router. Cut both sides of the mortise with the 1/4” spiral up cut bit, then hogged out material with a Brad point bit and cleaned everything up with a chisel.

Decided to flatten my bench top yesterday. It’s been a little over a year since I built it, and the wood wasn’t as dry as I would have liked at the time. All the leg tenons were a little loose in the mortises through the top, so I made some more walnut wedges and wedges them tighter. Then I flattened the top, there was between 1/8” and 3/16” difference from the lowest to the highest point. After flattening I put a 1/8” roundover on the perimeter and in all the dog holes, did a quick sand with 120 grit, and applied a coat of . Now it’s ready for more work!
