This one took MONTHS past its due date, but man did it turn out. A massive toy box with a slow close lid and a gap under the lid so fingers can't get pinched.

So much more work than expected, but it's all worth it when it turns out in the end. Love the finished product here.

Squaring up a board without a jointer.

Bought a 10' board to build the bottom frame of a toy box. Problem is, the board is not milled, so none of the cuts are square. That means I can't line up any edge of the board on a saw and get a straight cut. So, I have to square it up one cut at a time.

I started by cutting the board into two 53" lengths (final cuts need to be 52 1/2, so I wanted some wiggle room. These cuts were not square, but I would square the board to the cuts.

I clamped each board to my workbench, clamped a straight edge to the board, and squared that edge with the fresh cut on the end of the board. Then I rode a circular saw down the length of the boards along that straight edge.

The result? I now have a 90-degree angle (cut edges marked with arrows) on each board. I can run the new long edge on the table saw and get a perfectly parallel cut on the other side.

Then I can just cut them to 52 1/2 from the cut edge. Boom. I'll run them through the planer and I'll have perfectly milled lumber.

It'd be faster with a jointer, of course. But sometimes, you have to find a way!

Small custom bench ready for patching and sanding. Attached the legs and base and it didn't quite pass the "sit test": I felt it was a touch wobbly.

So I attached a couple cross pieces at the bottom of the legs using some scrap wood, and now this thing is nice and solid!

Woodworking is a gratifying endeavor.

It's a little overblown to say something will change the way I do business, but I'm dusting off a biscuit joiner I've had for years now and never used. If I get the hang of this, it definitely could be a business changer...

An old friend of mine from high school is stuck working at home indefinitely - and she doesn't have a home office or a desk! So she reached out and asked if I could build her some armrest trays to help convert her living room chairs into "desks" for the foreseeable future.

I shipped them to Atlanta and just got pictures back a few days ago. What do you think? I like 'em! Not bad for an improv project!

Accidentally made one wrong cut in my sheet of plywood for today's batch. If I hadn't made that one wrong cut, these two pieces of plywood would be one piece and I'd have more than enough wood. Now? I've got 8 feet of wood I can't use.*sigh*
