Master Bedroom // Live Work Space

More from the archives.
The client for this project was a writer who needed a space to put pen to paper, so we incorporated a writing desk into a built-in wardrobe using Prefinished Maple Plywood, wrapped the soffet with Walnut, and built a matching bed frame using Baltic Birch Plywood laminated with Walnut Veneer.

The home was a mid century modern, so the design was geared towards a modern mid century aesthetic.

This was a really fun build with great people all around!

Office // Guest Bedroom

Even though this was one of the first projects we ever worked on together, this was also one of the best small space solutions we’ve brought to life.

A raised kid’s bed on one side of a wall hides a pullout sofa bed in the office to transform it into a guest bedroom. The perfect solution for transforming a small office into a multipurpose space.

We worked with to bring his spectacular vision to life in the space.

It took 6 months to get the custom stain on White Oak just right and we love the way these finishes all came together. What do you think?

How did we do it?
This kitchen has too many features to list. We used soft close hinges and slides on the cabinets, except the glass display doors feature Salice Air Hinges. The floating shelves utilize Loox lighting, and the cabinetry finish is a custom Water Based Stain and Glaze with Aqualux Uniclear 20 Sheen Topcoat. If you’re interested in the products or processes that help us achieve these looks, just ask!

Here’s a look at a clean and simple way we like to add vertical LED strip lighting to tall cabinetry. We locate the light channel behind the door hinges near the front of the cabinet to it provides consistent lighting regardless of how full the cabinets are.

GLASS STORAGE //

My parents’ house is an Edwardian style home, built in 1907, across the street from Golden Gate Park in SF.

Their kitchen was remodeled in the 80s with Golden Oak flooring, and this year we finally got to fix that.

The old kitchen cabinets featured a very old style of dark stained raised panel doors, so we decided on OC-17 “White Dove” to lighten up the new Beaded Shaker Doors.

I wanted to add a modern touch to the space while keeping White Oak as a consistent design element to play off the newly stained Oak floors. Wooden wine glass racks are all the same, so here’s my take on a pared down glass rack.

I got this handy little PST II multitool in 7th grade before my first ever backpacking trip as part of a school outdoor ed. program.

After that it was always with me, when I became a member of in the SF Bay Area, and when I went to Glacier National Park as part of a volunteer trail crew before college.

It was with me in College when I became a Student Wilderness Guide with .

And it was with me for a million uses every day when I because a licensed cabinetry contractor.

It was with me until earlier this year when my work van was stolen with all my tools inside.

I got this snapshot of my multitool in the workshop when I was learning to use a dslr for the first time (which also was stolen in the van 😆) and it’s bittersweet to look back at how much a part of my life a simple tool has been.

That said, does anyone have any recommendations for a good multitool these days? I’m looking to find another long lasting hard wearing dependable ?
